Tri Power Progressive Linked or Synched Carbs

Ok all Tri-Power owners. How much do you gain in instant power going with a synched carbs vs. that of a progressive linkage.

The progressive vs synched linkage question involves which carbs are available and applicable. Typical 3X1 Six setups like the Offy typically use three carbs intended for single carb use. The low speed/rpm intake vacuum of the six typically may not be able to handle multiple carb flow (cfm) at low throttle position and results in typical bogging and poor peformance ("over carbed"). The progressive linkage of the Offy and similar only open the secondary /outer carbs at tune-able main/center carb throttle position. The performance built 250 3X1 in the '61 only opens secondaries at @ 2/3 throttle position and if the rpm is low it may stumble or bog at the transition. The short but connected (balanced) 3X1 intake runners to combustion chamber compared to 2Bbl and 4Bbl progressive carb direct mount and adapters is discussed advantage of the multi carb setup . Progressive Carbs' using a similar idea as progressive linkage provide smaller/lower cfm at low rpm with the advantage of much higher cfm when the seconary barrel(s) open up. Using a huge 4bbl on a small-low flowing engine can result in eye-watering rich condition and poorer performance than little OEM carb ...

I have wanted to try three H/W 5200 type 2 Bbl progressive carbs on a 3X1 Offy setup - I'd like to try try small cfm 5200 set synchronously before three progressive 2Bbl's with progressive linkage. 8)

My setup is 1-1 all 3 idle and all open at the same time , I have them syncronized , and it works great , HOWEVER , a smaller motor ( 200 and down ) and an automatic , with less than a 3500 flash stall converter would not be able to take it from a dead stop , I plan on making it progressive , for fuel economy sake , all 3 will still idle though .

I used the progressive linkage. It kept the mileage decent and as mentioned, I could essentially tune when the outer carbs came into the mix, which again would keep the mileage decent, but give me a very predictable position on the gas pedal to know when the outers would start to come in.
