well, i can aqquire them quite easily now, and i had never thought of them as a source till now. whats the boost on say a 98 dodge turbodiesel? theyre small looking turbos, i figured i could adapt it. and also, with a pop off valve or some sort of intake pressure release would i be able to run a few psi of boost with the carb i have? i know i'll prob need an electric fuel pump tho...which i already want. thanks, drew

They're Holset HX35W's from '94 to '04 (except for '01 where the auto trannys had HY35W's. The HY spools up quicker but has less top end). Both the HX and HY use the same compressor stages. The HX35 uses a divided turbine housing (critical area 12cmsq) with a 70cm turbine wheel and the HY35 uses a non divided 9cmsq housing with a 65mm turbine wheel.

I haven't seen any compressor maps, but they look like good turbos for our sixes. I know a lot of DSM guys use them, and they spool up to full boost at around 4000 rpm on a 2 liter engine. I'd think that we'd have full boost by 2500-3000 rpm...not to shabby. If I'm not mistaken they have a T3 flange, so would be easy to find adapters for.

The Cummins run from 17-20 psi. The turbos are capable of 35-40 with the right engine. A pop-off valve is always a good idea. Some of these turbos are also internally wastegated, but you'd have to look at them to see which ones.

the 2.3L guys are running them with good results too. I have been thinking of maybe using one when I am ready to setup up a little.

There's an article on them in January's Sport Compact Car mag. The guy's running the turbo on a 240SX. He limits boost to 7 psi and gets 266 hp and 271 lb-ft at about 5000 rpm. Not too shabby...we don't have the injector/electronic business to worry about so can turn the boost up easily.

thank you guys LOTS> hopefully i can get it done. i wont be really drivin alot this winter so i can tune and build with no prob. :) :) :) i'm sure i'll have tons of questions once i start but thanks :)

pure street use only - HY35
street and strip - HX35
less street/more strip - HX40

so which models had which? or do i just look till i find the smaller one? lol i am all street, just somethin really driveable
