Well, ive been working on a ford 1101 model carb for my falcon this week, hoping to swap it for the autolite 1100 thats on it. Today i pulled the old carb off, sat the bottom part of the 1101 model carb on it, and its too big for the intake. The carb came off a 240 big six, so i assume ill need some sort of adaptor? I hope i can use this carb because its in great shape and is a little bigger than the one on it now so maybe itll put a few more horsies in it. What can i do about this?

when i had that same problem (don't remember what carb i was putting on), i put a burr of suitable size on my dremel (die grinder would be better), and expanded the bolt holes in the carb until it fit. may not be the best option, but quick and effective. if there are concerns with the bolthead becoming too close to the carb body for a wrench to fit, allen-head screws could be a solution. also make sure your work aligns the carb opening to that on the manifold, make sure its not offset to one side

Wont work, i definatly need some type of adaptor. One of the vac. ports on the bottom of the autolite 1101 carb hangs completely off the intake. This carb im installing is off a big block six, and i think the throat measures 1.75 vs 1.5 inches for the stock autolite 1100. I may end up fabbing up an adaptor from some aluminum plate, but if i could buy one pre made id prefer that. Also would it be possible to remove the intake plate from the 240 engine? IIRC the 240 didnt have a removable plate that could be removed like my 200.

Howdy Back Brad:

If this carb came off of a 240 type six then it is likely not an 1101. The 1101 was used on cars and trucks with the 223 six and in 1964 on the 262 truck sixes. For comparison a 1101 will have a 1 5/8" choke throat. The throttle bore is 1 11/16". It is very similiar in appearance to the 1100 and should bolt up, bolt spacing wise easily. The only problem will be clearance of the larger diameter butterfly valve.

Since your carb came off of a 240 six, it is likely a Carter YF model. If so, you will likely need to adapt a mounting plate and linkage. The YF has a throttle bore of 1 11/16", and a 2" choke cap (IIRC). A YF looks very different than an 1100.

A YF off of a '70s and later 240 will not have a SCV. A 1101 from 1963 to 1968 will have a SCV. Only the 1969 1101 does not have a SCV.

So, verify which carb you have and then assess its compatibility with your distributor.

And keep us posted.

Adios, David

Im 100% positive its an 1101. Yes the butterfly is slightly larger than the 1100, it will bolt up fine other than the vaccum port hanging off of the side. due to the base is slightly bigger but it has the same mounting holes. I can get the engines intake preheater plate machined to open up the bore, and maybe add some more mounting width to it, i may see about doing that. The carb has an SCV and looks exactly the same as my autolite 1100, with the exception it has manual choke, a bigger throat, and only 1 accell pump. They even use the same rebuild kit (used GP sorensen model GF3492-4 rebuild kit for it)

Only other thing i noticed was that the idle mixture screws were different, assuming this has to do with the bigger bore. Im missing the idle mixture screw for the 1101 model :(

Think im going to go to the junkyard and pull another carb and mess with it, see if i can find some parts for the 1101 i have, which is in really good shape. Is there anything i can pull off the 240 engine at the junkyard to make this carb bolt up to my manifold without any machining? Maybe a preheater plate from a later 200 uses a bigger carb throat?

I have an adapter plate off a C9AE 240ci that has 1.75 bore and just under 3" center to center bolt spacing. It has the EGR? mounted to it. If you think that might work for you or adaptable, give me your e-mail address and I'll send you a pic.

Dont think i can use that thing explorer, im just getting a friend of mine with a machine shop to make me an adaptor if i keep using this. I pulled off the stock carb from the falcon and am rebuilding that now. I still need to locate an idle mixture screw for the 1101 carb before i can use it :?
