I have been reading about MegaSquirt and a few quesions I cant seem to find answers to are:

Do they work like the OE computers as far as if certain sensors fail will the system continue to operate? Check engine light limp mode sort of thing? Or do they just quit?

Is there a place where people post their set up files? I have been searching but have not found anything yet. Seems like that would be a handy place to start from since there are enough users out there chances are someone else has a simalar set up. I can see not everyone wanting to share but you would think some people would.

I have done google searches and followed most of the links I could find on the official MS site, is there other places to look?

From what I know, it depends on what sensors we're talking about here. If the MAP sensor fails, then the system just won't work. If something (relatively) minor fails, then the system will probably still run, just not properly. Like, if the coolant temp sensor goes, it might run rich. The good news is that all you need to do then is plug in your laptop to view the voltages from all of the sensors, and see if any are zero, or way out of range. Megasquirt (2) also has some pretty nifty advantages, namely that if you use an EDIS system for ignition advance, you are given a safety net, as if an ignition component fails, it locks itself in @ 10 deg advance for limping the car home... I hope this helped some. I guess the answer is that you'd have to plug in your laptop and check values seen by the computer. As for starting tunes, it seems like your best bet would be to start your own from scratch. This would take a lot more time on your part, but it will give you a pretty awesome understanding of the whole system, which really helps troubleshooting later. My neighbor has a Speed Density system in his 73 nova, and he knows less about it than I do, just because he had someone else program it, and it still isn't dialed in perfectly...

I knew I remembered seeing it somewhere on their site....

from the MS FAQ:

"The other method is to copy the setting from someone who has a similar combination of parts. You can look for similar vehicles in the 'Success story' forums here: www.msruns.com, and 'private message' the person using the button at the bottom of the post."
