Vacuum lines / EGR?

Hello again.

rebuilt the carb and restarted the maverick today, man that felt good.

I'm trying to identify/reconnect some hoses/lines that the previous owner unattached and/or plugged up.

the distributor line form carb to distributor i figured out.

okay, now he EGR mystery: I have an 'EGR' vacuum line coming out of the carter RBS (it's plugged right now) I also have an opening on the intake, at the base of the carb that spews vapor when running...my guess is that an EGR attaches there, the hose from the front of the valve cover attaches to the EGR valve, as does the small line from the carb...I thought that I had it nailed until both Chilton and Auto Zone tell me that '72 250's don't require EGR valves (hmm)...definitely need advice on this one.

AND if your really in a vacuum line mood: There's a vacuum spliiter located right above the exhaust manifold..one split leads to the tranny via metal tube...any clues on the other two???

thanks again.

On mine, the other vacuum lines run to the distributer, the trans and the carb. And I'm pretty sure you mean PCV instead of EGR...PCV runs from the valve cover to the carb, and EGR runs from the exhaust to the carb. Pretty sure these motors never had EGR!!

yeah...I feel pretty dumb.

okay...figured out that pcv vent hose (from front of valve cover) attaches to port at base of carb...I guess what's confusing me is the EGR port that stems off of the Carter Carb, right below the distributor port.

I got the pcv flow working, so idles/runs better and doesn't fill the cabin with vapor anymore

thanks for the reply!

I'm sorry, but Wallaka, could you clarify? You have vacuum lines that run from the manifold to the dizzy, the trannie, and the carb? Where on the Carb does it go?

  Sorry, I was visualizing it in my head, 'cause the car is in the States. Guess I forgot what comes from where for a sec. The distribution block has one each going to the tranny and dist, and the ported source also comes off of the carb. Still running the load-o-matic and all. I don't even have a PCV!

Aquila, maybe your carb was also used in another application that uses an EGR. The RBS was used on various AMC vehicles if I'm not mistaken, and I'm sure others.
