Waiting for a set of jets for the H/W 2bbl and need an air cleaner to finish install. Anybody come up with a neat low profile setup. So far I took a late 70's RBS 1bbl air cleaner from a 'Stang and wailed on the lower pan with body tools until it was "flat". I cut a template for the carb inlet and cut the pan to fit. It looks funky but it will work til I find a pretty one. Langdon's sells a Harley style that might work but hood clearance is the problem.

I believe the Weber version with the oval inlet is called the DFEV

I have a rectangular one but it isn't low profile - sorry.

I took the bottom portion of a early 80's Chevette air filter cut it the same size as the bottom on my 67 Mustang assembly. I also used the air filter adapter from the Chevette as well, it bolts to the top of the carb, and has two studs facing up. I made an adapter from a thin piece of sheet metal that bolts to the studs then threaded a bolt into the center to hold down the top part of my original air cleaner.

This clears the hood by about 1/2"

I had a stock pinto housing on my car.
That's what I'm looking for, but there is NOTHING at the yards around here.
Only one I found was burned to a crisp.

Dodge Omnis and various other 2.2 cars etc. all had holley ? or weber? carbs, maybe one of those would work

Another one I'm working on is the old 18R/22R Toyota SR5 truck air cleaner. I'm working on using a Weber carb in a tight Ecconoline. It has to clear the engine cover. The forward control people movers (Hi Ace, Lite Ace, Mitsubshi Space wagon) these used a similar set-up, but they didnt reach the States.

What the early non EFI Toymotor pickups did was use a huge remote air filter and a goose neck over the Asian 2-bbl carb. Landcruisers used it to. Might be just what you need.

The 1969 390 FE and some of the same year 250 I6's had a similar remote filters.

It is not a bad way to do things.
