hey guys ive been working on my xf and i cleaned it all up and i want to install gas before i start driving around but the only problem is all the Lpg system around on ebay and mates are carby not EFI i was wondering what the diff between the carby system and efi if i can just work out that i need after i buy a carby system i can just install the efi parts instead to solve the problems
Thx jason

Im in the process of fitting an lpg system to my EL wagon
carby and EFI systems do differ in the fact that the EFI system uses a second computer that interfaces with the ford ecu and a different mixer

The gas compter senses the mixture and changes the ignition curve so it runs right on gas

It allows the car to start on petrol and then swtiches to gas it cuts the injectors and the fuel pump

a tec9 computer is about $400 and an airod mixer is around the $200 mark

Doing your self isnt hard, i got my system from another wagon so the tank filler and lines are easy but i oppted to get a new computer and mixer so i know it new and i get fitting instructions :)

Gasfitting is just gasfitting. I'd do my own. The real issue for our man is that if the motor isn't tuned for gas, it's guaranteed to be underwhelming underfoot.

BTW, has anyone turned a critical eye to the Ford calculator on their Ford Oz site, for money savings with the E-gas option? It seems a little too good to be true.

Cheers, Adam.

Hmm i want to install gas to my efi motor i have a very good idea on where everything goes cause i can copy mates layout off his XD intill it all hocks up and all cause his carby

The car was originaly running LPG but was removed and sold to me now i want to put it all back in so i can have a cheaper fuel bill

also mate has his LPG redated 2 days ago and he told me all the tests the guy did so ill do them to to see if it all safe like spray soupy water over the lines and if bubbles well ive seem to have a leak then ill fix it and ill be taking the car into Ultratune straight after all up running get them to tune it all them and there computers will get it done without a problem

dose anyone know the layout for the efi system and explain where the gas hooks up to the efi and what do i need between the line from tank and connection to the efi if i can work that out then i can start buying all the gear and get the car on the road with LPG after it gets it certificate from a professional LPG redater/installer

Id need to know more about the kit or parts you have.
Most LPG systems for the EFI cars simply disable the fuel injectors while the lpg system is on, some will start the car on petrol then switch to lpg after the first deacceleration. This done by disconnection of the 12 + feed to the injectors by a relay. The fuel pump is left to run so an instant switch to petrol can be made and to cool the injectors, but if the tank runs dry the pump will burn out.
The lpg uses a standard mixer in front of the efi throttle and a convertor in the normal way. This doesnt give best performance on lpg but works ok.
tell me what you have available to use and Im sure we can help.
