I have the carb off my 67'mustang and this is what the tag says; AUTOLITE C60F--AD A6KA. The parts store can't find a rebuild kit for it but I think it is the origanil carb and he says it's not. I can't afford a new one and I need the plastic rod for the pump on the top of it .
Please help
Thank You
Steve

I tried goign through the parts store for a new carb, and they ordered one and it was off something different, and I went to 2 or 3 stores and non could get me one so I gave up and just bought the holley.... good luck

Tell me more about the holley. Like what did you have to do to mount it? How much did it cost to convert it? What parts did you have to buy to fit it if any, maybe some closeups of your linkage would help. What carb (part number) should I be looking for? Basicly I need someone to hold my hand as I am only really familiar with 4 barrels. A parts list and parts source would be really helpful. I know I am asking alot but any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

I bought a D8 head from the local scrap yard and paid something like 50 dollars for it. I took it to my machine shop and had them plane it down, and do a valve job, and fix a crack and replace the springs... ummm I believe the total was 200? and then bought the holley 2300 series 500cfm carb (paid 219 for it new and have heard alot of peopel saying its overkill so I would siggest the 350 cfm version) when I got it home I ended up buying an aluminum adapter for putting the holley carb onto a different car I dont remember what though... and the used a dremel and drilled out the 1 bbl hole and used a littel bit of epoxy to make for a good seal, and tapped some hole and mounted it all together, works great but I woudl suggest a header and exhaust and an electronic ignition, and a cam would probably help too... overall it was a bit of work but worth it I think I just looked through my pics and couldnt find any of the head before I mounted the car or any of the linkage, I will take some tomarrow if your interested...

The pics would be a great help, one stupid question though- what is a D8 head?

A D8 head is a later model head, I'm not completely sure of the exact years but I would take a guess of the late 70's early 80's.....

The letter denoted the decade of manufacture. C=60's, D=70s, E=80's etc. The number is the year of the deacade. Hence D8 is 1978. C6 would be 1966.

Later heads had the hardened valve seats for use with unleaded gas. They also had a larger intake log and larger intake and exhaust ports. Also, larger valves (1977 or so) and unfortunately, larger combustion chambers that significantly lower the compression. That can be easily dealt with and the larger intake and exhaust definitly help with performance and the hardened valve seats are needed for today's gas formulas.
