What is the biggest 1bbl I can get to fit my 66 200 head?

I bought Mustang Geezers 66 head and am considering just trying to find the largest 1bbl I can find.

I know the Carter YF's on the 300 I6 trucks were fairly large but what was the best flow? I seem to remember around 210cfm or 250cfm. My goal would be as close to 300cfm as I can get.

Has anyone tried to modify these for more flow by doing things like removing the choke plate and horn? (This isnt a daily driver).

Engine specs will probably be as follows:

9.5:1 to 10:1 CR
Clifford 272H cam
long tube header
66 head with the big valves, ported and polished and exhaust divider.
3.55 gears

Thanks in advance.

Howdy Back:

According to a post Doug made back in '02, the YF from a 300 is rated at 220 cfm.

With careful polishing of the venturi and removing and smoothing the choke horn you might be able to bump that up by 10%.

I don't recall what Doug did to the carb bore hole in this head, but the stock '66 had a carb hole bore of 1 1/2". I seem to recall that the 300 YF has a much larger throttle bore- at least 1 11/16". The carb bore hole would have to be modified to accomodate the larger butterfly of the 300 YF.

I recall that Doug was down this road to some extent and had idle issues, but said it ran great on the top end.

I was studying his website last night after I posted here.

The head has been opened up to 1.75" for the carb bore.

Looks like the Holley 2300 mounted to a modified head seems to be the best performance short of the tri power.

Now if it was mine... :D I'd put a Clifford 1 into 2 Holley 2300 adapter on it and run a 2 Bbl on that head.

The 250 YF had great bottom and mid range power but choked off around 4000-4500 rpm's.

The 300 YF had great top end 3500-5500 rpm's but was a dog on bottom end.

Just somthin to think about!

I am about to take my holly 1bbl out shooting in the woods.

I am thinking about the clifford adapter 1 to 2 bbl and running a holly 2300. Any clearance issues or any modifications that I need to be concerned with?

@Mustang Geezer...You had your chance!! :D

Is this the adapter you were referring to?

Hey Bill- You probably need to start your own topic on your plans to do a two barrel adapter onto your "Sweet 66". There are several issues you will want to consider.

The most common issue I hear of is hood clearance. You will need to make sure your hood wont hit the aircleaner.

Yep thats the one! Just make sure that the 66 head has the 2 3/4 inch stud centers. Clifford makes 2 different adapters for the 2 different carb/log bolt patterns.

When you get it just hog out the center until it matches the hole in the intake log.
