I have a 72' Mav 200/auto with a dual outlet header. It is time to install muffler(s) ? I need everyones input on what type muffler (s) to get to give it a beefier performance sound similar to the 5.0 mustangs . :checks:

dual outlet header and some magnaflows should give a nice sound...thats what i'm planning on soon (if i get the new job i applied for)

My first choice would have to be Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler WLK-17731 $34.95/each at Summit, 2 1/4 in. offset inlet/ center outlet 4 ½â€￾ W X 9 ¾â€￾ H X 18 ½â€￾ L. I think they sound the best of the ones I've heard, but then again I like a six to sound like a six!

Flowmaster 50s sound wicked at idle and WOT. A lot of very confused people when I pop the hood.

However...they are too loud for me. The sound is nice...just way too loud for my taste, but I like quieter cars.

Does it matter if you have 2 mufflers or one ? Is there a restriction factor to consider or is it just a case of Make it breathe the best you can ?

This is supposed to help. I'm going to give it a shot on mine. A resonator in front of the flow gets rid of the drone.

Really? that would be sweet... i hate sounding like an airplane.

I'd be happy if the Mustang sounded like an airplane. Right now, at 1500 rpms, it sounds like someone blowing across a Coke bottle......

I have dynamax super turbos on mine....They are loud but good!

Later,

Doug

I have the super turbos as well. They sound pretty good, but I have to admit, they are a bit loud.

When I was 20, I thought they sounded fantastic. Now that I am 34, I would prefer something a little quieter.

However, my brother heard my car drive away a few days ago and thought it sounded fantastic.

Jack, your flowmaster system looks great. from the picture i can't tell whether you are running through an x pipe or do the pipes just seem close??? the x pipe setup will quiet the system plus give more torque. i just heard from my machine shop on my late model head, i hope to have my setup running in a couple of months. i plan to use the dynomax super turbo mufflers through a dual system. advise on any other muffler choices. william

That's not mine. It's a shot of something I intend to copy.

It's an X-pipe system on a V8. The glasspacks were added to help keep the Flows from resonating at low rpm.

Right now mine is a single 2 1/4" with a Flowmaster that looks like the right half of the above. I'm eventually going to go back to duals.

Im with Slade, Ive got Flowmaster 50's and I LOVE em. Im not tooooo aweful picky about the drone but I do kinda wish it wasnt there, but I would definitely recomend these mufflers, makes my car sound like its got some balls!!!!

I have Borla ProXS mufflers on my I6. I have a FSPP dual out header. I run straight duals all the way back. The Borlas sound nice. They are not too loud but not too quiet. They will not make your I6 sound like a V8. It is quiet at idle but it really picks up when you accelerate. :D

mine have grown on me...or I'm just going deaf. I am thinking about adding some resonators just to help out the drone.

instead of adding headers, would splitting the stock exhaust near the front and running dual all the way back still sound just as good? cause then i can do my exhaust sooner and just add a header later, that way i dont have a header kicking around for awhile.

Im not sure it would sound much better unless you got the dual out header. Right before I got the header on, my pipe that connected to the manifold wouldnt stay on and it sounded mean open manifold style, I loved it alot until I drove around open headered for a week  Go ahead and get the header, it will help power and it will sound WICKED

Slade, let me know how it sounds with resonators when you get it, maybe get a sound file!

Well folks,i put the dual outlet header on with 2 walker super turbos and it sounds just right ! My buddy that has a 73' Corvette rode with me on its maiden voyage and said he couldnt tell it was a 6 cylinder car. Thanks to all who gave thier input ! The next thing to address will be igniton and the weber carb......hhhmmmmmmm

clutchburner, what is your header outlet diameter? What size is your exhaust system??
Do you have the part # of the walker super turbo mufflers?
any reply would be helpful. thanks william
