What to take of a 1970 170 ci

I'm parting out a 1970 Maverick and am pulling the 3.03 trans, bell housing, flywheel, driveshaft, 8" rear end, and gas pedal/cable throttle bracket for a '65 Falcon. I'm keeping the carb just in case I need it in the future. I have a lead on a 200 from a early 70s Maverick that I'm going to warm over to replace the current 170 in the Falcon, so I don't need the Maverick 170.

No one seems to be interested in the 170 in the Maverick. I was thinking about keeping the head as I seem to remember somewhere that while the log isn't as big as later 200s there was something about it that made it worthwhile. Can anyone clarify that for me?

Also, anything else I should pull from the motor before the Maverick goes to scrap?

Thanks!

The head may have a smaller combustion chamber compared to a 200 head from the same year. This would help raise the CR of the 200.

Quick question, how many freeze plugs are on the side?
Still looking for the elusive seven main 170 crank.

3 freeze plugs on both the 70 Maverick & 65 Falcon blocks I'm afraid.

Thanks for the quick response, I'll check the 200 head against the 170. I may be getting a 250 head with the 200 engine as well. So I'll have some to choose from.

The 170 may have adjustable rocker arms, which offer more flexibility for those who may have changed their valvetrain geometry by decking the block, milling the head, changing gasket thickness, etc.

Thanks
Bob

the crankshaft pulley and the motor mounts,
the carb spacer

I was at the car yesterday pulling parts and though about bmbm40's comment on getting the motor mounts. Are they hard to find items and would they be useful for a 1965 Falcon?

I'll get them off if they are, but will have to figure a way to keep the block from falling out of the bottom of the engine compartment. :D

You want to get the brackets that bolt onto the front crossmember that the motor mounts bolt to. The motor mounts are actually the parts with the rubber pads that bolt onto the engine then the brackets. The engine brackets from the Maverick is suppose to position the engine lower in the bay giving better air cleaner clearance if used in the Mustangs/Falcons.

You can purchase motor mounts from your FLAPS, but not the engine brackets.

Makes sense?

The Maverick is an interesting transition of parts from the Falcon platform,

... a rusty '71 Maverick 4 Dr 170 I picked' had a DOxx' head which went to a friend's early Bronco, the 170 block/FW/ Toploader Bell, sway bar, radiator , gas tank straps, shocks and shock tops, 14" wheels used on my '63 Wagon.

.. My '61 2 dr has the 8" rear (3.80:1 posi), Driveshaft ends, Clutch Z-Bar and chassis fulcrum ball for the 250, sway bar links , rear shock mount, Gas Pedal cable setup, electrical ignition and charging components and wiring , the horn . .. 8)

I use the 170's YF carb to test run engines it runs so well,

have fun
