where should i put the fuel filter and fuel pump?

I have a fuel pump and canister style fuel filter that i want to put before the fuel pump. I know that the pump should be put as close to the gas tank as possible but im having a hard time deciding on where would be a good place to stick them. Could someone upload some pics of their install?

This must be an electric pump? They usually want them lower than the bottom of the tank if possible. This helps with priming especially during situations with low fuel levels when you turn corners and such. EFI cars have special baffles in the tank to deal with this issue. As for a pre filter you would want one specifically made for that purpose. A typical filter may cause too much restriction. Electric pumps dont suck very well. For the output side you just have to make sure the filter is rated to handle what ever pressure the pump can generate with some safety margin.

Here is how I did my pump a few years ago. Not sure if you have a flange on your tank or not. I used beam clamps (available at places like Home depot to attach pipes and conduit to I beams) to attach to the tank flange and the rest came with the pump.

Curious, why 2 fuel pumps? The mechanical pump works fine, but if going electric, a lot of them advise placing close to tank, but if you use a Carter P4070, you can mount it under the hood and it will work fine and last darn near forever. Low oil pressure switch and inertia switch are good ideas also.

Some people use two pumps. The second pump could be used as a helper with an on/off switch. Good for vapor lock situations.

My car in the photo has EFI so thats why I have an electric pump. I dont think much of the concept of 2 pumps. Seems like it compromises both of them. Next efi I am planning on building what many call a swirl pot using the mechanical to feed it and then the high pressure electric will draw from that small tank and the unused will just flow back to the tank.

2 fuel pumps? where do you see that?
The reason i am changing over to a electric fuel pump is bc im putting the trip weber carb set up on my car. I also have a few performance upgrades to go with it (performance cam, headers, etc).
I do have a carter 4070 fuel pump so that good to hear that they last forever.
