IMCO was first used in California in your Vin ( the second letter will be an R ) but being as Old ( I am assuming your Sig is the car a 66 mustang ) , I doubt its enforced , and there is no performance advantage to having it , just if your restoring for concourse events

So, would I be right in saying that if you do not currently have an IMCO exhaust manifold then there should not be any issues with replacing yours with an IMCO EM?
I am currently running the "IMCO" C8 exhaust manifold. I converted my exhaust system from 1.75" stock with a transverse muffler, to a 2" system all the way back to a straight inline turbo muffler mounted under rear seat floor pan (looks like half a bent8 system).
EDIT: Otherwise it is a bolt on.
The only differences between the C8 IMCO and the smaller '66 manifold my engine was originally equipped with are; 1) a larger outlet 2" instead of the 1.75" used in '66, and there seems to be slightly more volume (cc's) in the collection area of the manifold (as well as a generally thicker casting in this area...ie you'll need a couple more of the longer exhaust bolts to swap in the C8 "IMCO" exhaust manifold). There are no additional bungs or brackets on my C8 IMCO exhaust manifold. Additionally it is still equipped with the heated air port between cylinders #&4 for the automatic choke tube.
The slightly larger 'collection' area in the C8 IMCO manifold combined with the larger output (2") should give 'modest' improvements in exhaust flow and reductions in combustion chamber/exhaust manifold temps. My butt-o-meter dyno could not necessarily tell you there is a big difference...but there is some (like most mods gains can be incremental depending on other components), and as they say YMMV...Good luck
