Which AC unit have you all used?

I am seriously considering adding AC to my 69 Mustang. I have looked at three brands: Old Air Products, Vintage Air and Classic Air. Has anyone installed these units into a car that was not equiped with air?

Goods and Bads between them, good experience on the install? and so on. When I looked at Rod and Custom web site they suggested adding a six blade fan. No mention of the larger radiator???

Thanks for the opinions.

I bought some parts from vintage and classic. I didn't need an evaporator.
I used an original mustang/falcon underdash unit with a new expansion valve calibrated for 134a. There are instructions floating around showing how to adjust a stock expansion valve to 134a, but a new one just wasn't that expensive.
Other mods were a -big- aluminum generic radiator (aluminum falcon/mustang radiators were not available for a reasonable cost back at the time of the -big- radiator conversion), 6 blade fan, 10% overdrive h2o pump pulley, lots of little things that I felt needed to be done. Much of which is photo-documented on my site in the Falcon updates section. Everything still works great on the original charge. We drove all over the central valley last weekend in 95+ (F) temps, water temp sat between 195-200 the whole time.
Both air companies were easy to deal with and generous with the advice.
Buy a couple greenlee knockout punches to make -perfect- holes in the firewall, and spring for the bulkhead fittings.

I bought my kit from Nostalgic Air, it was very complete, but I have noticed an overheating issue on 95* plus days while sitting in traffic. I have a new generic 2 row radiator and 195* thermostat, but everything else on the car is all original, so I can't say for sure what condition my cooling jackets are in; hard to say for sure what the real cause is.

I went with Classic Auto Air for my '62 Ranchero, had to use their early Mustang kit. Pretty complete kit, but the instructions...well, they suck, and trying to call them on the phone is an exercise in frustration, especially on a weekend (when you'll most likely have a question pop up.)

Also, they said their kit comes with a parallel-flow condenser, but it doesn't, it came with an old-fashioned tube / fin type (well, the tubes *are* parallel to each other...)

Seems lately, I've been promoting (on FordSix) good service. Let me tell you, Jon at NAP is very accomodating and helpful. His prices are better than anywhere using the same name equipment. He was alwys a phone call away when I needed him.

Not to hijack the thread, but I think its absolutely important that we promote good service from vendors! There's what, a couple of hundred (maybe thousands) of users on this site and TFFN.net that are modifying/repairing/updating their cars? If you start recommending the good shops, they'll get more business, which will cause the bad shops to either go away or improve to survive. Just my $.02 worth.
