Well its time to buy gaskets, I,ve searched the site best I could with no clear answers. whats the preferred gaskets ( mainly head gasket) for a 250 perf. build. victor- felpro etc. thinnest gasket for head is preferred.

thanks
bob

Howdy Back B:

Both Victor and Fel Pro are of composite type and excellent head gaskets. Compression thicknesses will vary depending on Torque. Victor 3910VC measure .046" and compress to .044" using standard torque specs. Fel Pro 7916 PT-1 measure .055" and compress to .050".

These gasket are for 200 and 250 engines.

The Factory steel shim head gaskets are no longer available. They were .025" thick compressed.

I hope that's what you need.

Adios, David

Felpro held up the longest to turbo boost,I tried the others . You may not need the stronger solid core of the Felpro for what you are doing.

"...david, yes those part numbers are a blessing. going to go victor I believe…."
i like the napa timing set #s even beddah!

oNE SITE MENTIONED THE fELPRO is not to be used for racing / high performance. In general I swing towards Victor gaskets in most cases.

They also said a ford six is not to be used for racing. There is no made for racing gasket for the 200 -250.

I have a collection of 'used' 200/250 steel shim gaskets ad have considered dosing one with copper spray and trying re-using it.

The 170/144 sized - steel shim gasket type are fairly available but often are mis-labelled as for 144-250 as the 200/250's often are.

My '63 has a C9DE 170 with a worked D7xx head cut to 48cc chamber head and copper spray'd Steel Shim OEM type gasket for a SCR @ 9.5:1. Gets @ 24 MPG cruising easily @ 70MPH - (93 octane ). It's been @ 10 years on road and still no head gasket seepage.

Current forced induction project has 250 with OEM uncut 62cc chamber worked head and typical Victor composite head gasket (@.045) for intentional low compression SCR @ 7.8:1 - This shows why you don't just use a composite gasket without gasket thickness attention for target compression ratio.

have fun

.

I don't see why the copper coat wouldn't work, at the worst a slight touch of rtv aroung the water passages. but rtv would be my last ditch effort. that copper coat is real good stuff. I,d also go down on my rad cap psi.

well been a bust past few days ordering parts, heres whats all coming

SI valves
Schneider cam,valve springs,retainers and keepers
victor gasket set
murry thermostat
precission mech fuel pump
melling m82 oil pump
and clay smith timming chain setup
about time for machine work, pistons, rings and bearings along with some small stuff.

Will the 1.84s fit on a log? I went with the 1.75s because I was scared of drawin water on #1...

Hopefully so! :-) I was just too afraid to try. Then again, I'm not going multi-carb so my build probably wouldn't see the difference...

Thanks for the post back.
so as I've seen David/others post "no longer available":

"...The 170/144 sized - steel shim gasket type are fairly available but often are mis-labelled as for 144-250 as the 200/250's often are. …"

what's the problem in size or thickness or…. with these currently available 'steel shim' from fitting the 250 (or is it 200 as well)?

I C custom co.s produce one off's for a customer. What is requited? Can't I locate the right thickness 'sheet' having the right properties and cut my own? Or are the 'sheets' w/the right properties (compression, heat capable, leak proof) unavailable, quite expensive…

I usta sell all kinds of products (in sheets) for gasket material. This was at the typical big box stores (no super specailty items) not a speed shop. It seems something would be available for me - even if I had to take it to my (very friendly) local machinest for his help...
