I noticed something new last night when I was working on my project car - white/blue smoke! Mostly white!

I thought, great, just one more thing to add to my list. But then I noticed that it was only coming from the crankcase breather cap (removed of course). No smoke from the tail pipe. Isn't this odd or am I missing something?

I know the valve seals are new and seated properly. I guess there is alot of things that could be causing it. :( Also, when I rev the motor the smoke increases tremendiously. Where should I start? Piston rings?

You're probably just seeing the oil 'steam'. I would notice it on my old explorer all the time if I removed the cap.

Ya, but it scared the neighboorhood kids! Especially when it was hovering around 5000 rpms! One of the kids yelled that the car was on fire!

That brings me to something else. I know I have to relieve some crankcase pressure but what is the best way to do this? I've tried the stock setup with the recirculation hose from the carburetors air cleaner to the valve cover and an aftermarket valve cover breather cap. Does it matter?

there should be a breather at one end of the cover and a pvc valve at the other and there should be a hose from the pvc valve to the carb base hope this helps 8)

Got that but I was just wondering about the valve cover breather. Should I run a hose from the breather to the air cleaner (filter is really saturated with oil) or put on an open air breather. Hmmmm....

IIRC, the stock setup went from the PCV to a fitting in the water adapter under the carb. I had my 200 (plus 89) hooked up to suck through the air cleaner assembly last summer and it still puffed smoke from the breather, but after getting a good whack from pops and buying the proper brass fitting for under the carb it no longer does that.

And it was bad enough that when we took out 2k trip with it last summer my SWMBO asked me if the car was having any issues because she could see the "smoke" coming out from the edges of the hood.

I added pcv to my 63 through the carb base..it had the road draft. Anyway it was sucking too much air because of the oil cap filter and I ended up putting a oil cap on that sealed.

it don`t matter if you use stock or custom they`ll both do the same thing one just looks better :D

I remember someone telling me that the transmission modulator going bad and the engine sucking transmission fluid into the engine. What happened was a large thick cloud of white smoke, looking like it was on fire :? ...ZZ

since we`re talkin about smoke .

one time a cuple of years ago me and my mother were in the mav goin down the hiway and and all the sudden steam comes rollin up out from underneath the hood well my mom said that it would last a cuple more miles to the next exit then the lights went very dim so she puled over to the side of the road and there was so much steam that some fire fighters stopped to help cuz they thaught that it was on fire :D , but all that happenned was a small leak in the rad that was gettin the altinater wet.
