When I was a much younger bloke, way pre polution gear, first thing we'd do was "sports" air filter and extractors trying to get to it breath more freely.
What can we change in that area on xf these days? and still pass rego,(N.S.W.) due 2 mths suspect exhaust will not pass as is so thinkin why not get better performing system than original.
Tell me I'm dreamin if this is a waste of time as I've no desire to change from standard (already rebuilt ) ADM just want it to breath better.
What alternate air cleaners are passible.
All them hoses hangin round the weber, other that vacum advance, they really needed.

A wrecker ought to cough up a near new set of dual pattern (iron and alloy) extractors for $100 or less. Theoretically, they should have the EGR pipe rising from one of the six pipes, and maybe a preheat tube for an auto choke (unless this is electric).

Said EGR valve is a diabolical performance killer. A "sandwich plate" blocking it off but looking stock standard is one way to keep your exhaust gas in the exhaust and out of your intake. A duct to get cold air in from the front is always good news.

With Sydney's crap petrol, and the hot weather, don't expect a rocket right now. If you have a catalytic converter, you could get it discreetly gutted. This will help some.

How do think I feel now, paid a slippery exhaust bloke $250 cash, no receipt to descreetly put in another converter , not long after new motor went in. At least that kept me happy for a couple weeks , no more what I heard as pinging, should've scrapt it then eh.

What addo said. $100-$150 will locate you a set of good condition extractors. The rest of the system shouldn't be too exxy. If its the ULP vehicle, you'll need a cat in there. Dunno about NSW if they do a sniffer test, but in the west, they tap something on the cat. If it sounds hollow, it probably is, so they dont pass them. The trick is to fill it up with pink batts, and run a piece of pipe through the middle of the cat...
