Would 1.6 rockers make a noticeable increase in a stock 250? I noticed in the dyno results on fordsix they did not contribute to peak numbers much but increased the average hp and torque numbers. Anyone ever try this?

Yes I did...it was my car that was used when the dyno test was done. Although the peak horsepower change was insignificant, the average torque numbers went up by about 10 IIRC. I could feel the difference driving the car...it seemed more responsive.

I noticed the diff on the bottom end on my 200. I don't have dyno #'s but could feel the difference on low end torque.

Thanks Gene and shetland for the replies.
The Falcon manual talks about 1.6 rockers along with increased air flow capacity as providing a noticeable increase. My engine is stock but increased lift would increase fuel and air if I understand correctly which could produce a small increase in torque across the rpm range. The dyno #'s that Mike provided indicate that a 2 barrel carb and adapter produced a small increase in torque but bolting in 1.6 rockers seems easier and no hood clearance issues either. I am looking for a late model head with the big flat top log for direct mount Autolite 2100 but considering performance mods with what I have now.

Howdy:

The 1.6:1 rocker conversion is one of the easiest bolt-on upgrades one can make. It requires removing the rocker arm cover and undoing the four stauncheon bolts and gently lifting off the shaft assembly. Carefully remove and replace the pushrods with the adjustible rocker arm pushrods. Be sure to clean the rocker shaft if it is going to be reused with new 1.6 rocker. If you get the complete assembly from Mike, I think they are already clean and ready to go. Last thing is to adjust the pre-load for each lifter, which could have a positive effect on your stock cam timing- depending on how the non-adjustible rockers were pre-loaded. The increase in valve lift equate to about .030", but has a positive effect on power across the rpm range. IF your engine is in good shape and you don't plan on a performance cam upgrade in the near future 1.6 rockers are a good idea. About the only down-side is that they are fairly expensive.

At your elevation, increasing the initial advance is a free and easy performance and economy bump too.

Thanks for the reply on the 1.6 rockers. Mike is making available new options for this that are more reasonable than what has been available.
Also thanks for the tip on the timing. I have some ignition upgrades as well as alternator and lighting to do just have to make some time for it.
I need to get a timing light and vacuum gauge to really do things right. Considering looking in pawn shops and checking ebay. Anyone on here find a good source for these items ? Looking to buy quality used equipment if possible so any name brands better or worse? Any tips appreciated.
Thanks
