170 distributor in a 200?

Hi all, I remember a while back somthing about the 170 distributor not being compatiable with the 200. What's the differance? thank you, Art

There are some differences over time; not really about engine capacity so much.

Early distributors have a 490 thou pilot shaft on the tip and a ¼" (A/F) hex recess for the oil pump drive.

Later ones are 530 thou pilot size, and 5/16" internal hex recess. The change occurred about 1965 or so.

Regards, Adam.

8) it was a running change in 1964. mine has the smaller dist shaft due to the car being an early production model. i think it was in feb or march when the change was made.
