I need to ID a head with a C1 casting number. Is this a 144 or possibly a 170 head? Was there a difference in chamber size that I can measure and establish?

Howdy Back:

The only casting we've every found on a 144 is a C0DE. It has 1.467" intakes and 1.266 exhasut valves and an intake tract vvolume of 850 ccs.

The C1, used in the 1961 762 model years has a volume of 890 ccs and intake valve size of 1.52". Exhaust measured 1.266".

The key will be the size of the intake valve.

It's 170.

My 1966 200 had been given a 1963 170 head on it.

It reads C1UE-6049-A. The Australian head then reads 170, then date stamped 24 J 3.

52 cc chamber.

(Aussie stuff, though, and it the numbers are cast upside down  )

This was about the time that the engine started getting build in Geelong, australia, but your US casting codes should be similar.
