I'm getting ready to buy a brand spanking new 200 for my '64 Fairlane. She has a 170 in now backed with a 2-speed fordomatic. All original. My questions are what else will I need to bolt the 200 in? Will it fit the engine mounts? Will it bolt up to the tranny? What am I missing on this? Thanks!

That's what I'm afraid of, only being able to get a big bell these days. Guess it's time to start asking questions of engine suppliers.......

well, you could swap engine AND trans when doing a big bell swap. If you get a C-5 trans from an '82 and up car you also get a lock-up torque converter for a little extra MPG (and three gears!).

driveshaft mods might be needed.

Yeah, don't sweat the big-bell issue. It's an excuse to move to a more efficient trans with an extra gear. 8)

Upgrading to a 200 is a piece of cake. I did it with a come-along (hand winch), a sturdy oak tree, and about 5 hand tools. Removed the hood and all the hoses and accessories, then pulled the engine and trans all at once, using a rope to pull the tailshaft of the trans down as we raised the engine so it would clear the firewall.

Best mod I've ever done on a car. The engine cost me all of $30 and it only took a weekend of my time.

Did ya have to change out the tranny mount? Does anybody know if the one Dearborn Classics sells will fit the Fairlane? I think they have it listed for the Falcon......

A local guy gave me one for FREE to make room for a V 8!!
The deals are out there is you look hard enough.

i'm currently doing the same thing, except i'm putting a 200 from a 64 fairlane into a 64 falcon wagon,i had to switch motor mounts as the fairlane mounts would make the motor sit to high in my falcon, the trans is different too, there is a leaf spring on the falcon trans but not on the fairlane,it looks like i will have to fabricate a mount i still have to get in there and look to be sure, maybe it's just a matter of switching trans mounts around
