1946 226 Tuning

I have just replaced the old leads with Silicone leads, new plugs caps etc, converted to electronic ignition unit. since doing so the engine seems to be missing umph!!
Also I am tryning to set the mixture by ear its a holley 847 carb
Any advice??

Either use a Vacuum gauge or listen for RPM drop , I am assuming your doing by ear from lack of equipment , not choice , after you and that's the order , AFTER , you have the Timing Set , adjust the idle mixture for the Highest RPM ( in gear if its an AUTO , ) or highest Vacuum if you have a gauge , you may find that setting is just a tad on the rich side but it will give the best performance , you could reference that setting , then turn in the adjustment screw till rpms start to drop , reference that , and then set it in the middle of the two , that will be a leaner and less odorous mixture , nothing is set in stone and I never go by SPECS in a manual to set idle speed , its more a matter of preference , keep in mind a too low idle speed is NOT a good thing , as at idle Splash Lubrication is needed and too low reduces it , with today's oil that have low ZINC levels and a too low Idle speed can cause Cam / Lifter Falure ( a tip ) ,
