was wondering if anybody out there was running a classic inline 6 200 ci in a 80's fox body

i have a 1966 mustang inline 6 i want to keep stock because it is rare with the bench seat and the 3 speed. but i would still be very interested in putting the spare 1967 200 inline in my fox body 1986 gt and putting some performance parts into it.

just wondering were i could find the k members or how everything lines up

any help would be greatly appreciated thanks scott

200 I6 was original equipment from 1979 1/2 to IIRC 1982 in the Mustang and Capri.

Your 1967 3.3L (200cid) is basically the same motor that was offered in the Foxes except in 1975 the head was modified to run unleaded gas. Starting in 1978 a larger volume intake log was offered.

In 1979 2.8L V6 was offered but due to popularity of the engine in Europe for the wildly popular European Capri's.

The I6 was already used in Fairmont and Zephyr and was put in the Mustang. Only problem was the I6 had poor emissons so had lower compression and restrictive dual catalytic converter exhaust. The big "coffee can" on the bottom of the exhaust manifold is the light off converter.

End result was a car with a 60cid larger engine with same power and almost same torque as the four cylinder car while being more nose heavy and using same springs and sway bar. Handing wasnt quite as good and gas mileage wasnt as good either.

All the underhood parts are the same except for the unique K-member and parts directly related to the I6 motor.

You will need a rear sump oilpan and pickup fpr the I6 in a Fox. You can use Maverick motor mounts which Mike sells on Classic Inlines website.

Swap K-member and swap your A-arms, springs, brakes, and struts onto I6 K-member. Your GT swaybar will work too but may be a little stiff. A swwaybar off a 1987-93 V6 mihgt be better. Stock GT is 1.31" and V6 bar should be 1.12"

Your GT should also hjave a quick ratio racl and pinion with 15:1 ratio and a high volume power steering pump. I know rack and pinion will transfer over but may need different rack bushings as earlier year Foxs used a larger bolt IIRC.

I have looked at the GT power steering pumps and it looks like it will swap over but havent figureed out how to get pulley off to access bolts underneath that hold pump to bracket.

The tranny mounts and driveshaft appear to be the same. Looks like Ford moved the I6 forward to keep rear alignment the same with rest of Foxes to minimize parts needed.

Tranny was usually a C4 or a SROD 4speed. Later some C3's were offered.

I have a project going to drop a 200 I6 into my 91 Mustang convertible. I have K-member, engine, and all parts to drop either C4 or T5.

I am using the BMW M3 with 3.4L I6 as my performance goal for my 91 T-top and 91 Convertible. BMW makes over 300hp but it also weighs 3600lbs. Even my convertible weighs less than that.

Project is on hold due to financial problem with my moms nursing home and hours cut back at work.

The Probe crapped out earlier this year so Im driving convertible. Getting Probe fixed so I can daily drive and then start swapping parts on Convert.

The 91 convertible had a 4cyl 5 speed with 3.73 rear. The 4cyl wont rev past 4500rpm and has problems holding speed going up hillls. I dont want a V8 due to high gas prices but I do want more torque and power. I think the 3.3L is just the thing.

As for performance:

All performance mods discussed on here are same ones you would use on your motor.

Being a 1967 model you have advantage of good compression ratio to start with but you need better breathing and exhaust. Also while engine is out of the car this is the perfect time to install a performance cam.

You asked for a '67 block. Yes it will bolt on like Anlushac11 noted. How ever, the early block doesn't have a hole for the oil dipstick at the rear, but a late D8 block will have both (the front one and the rear one). Well, small problem but you'll have to plan to drill the hole thru the block at the rear, of fabricate it on the side of the oil pan. Get a '78 (D8) or newer block and this small inconvenience is history.

8) when looking for a K member, you dont have to limit yourself to mustang/capri members. any fox body six cylinder K member will be fine.

if you can weld and fab stuff you can use a regular K and just fab up the needed brackets for a I6 on it.

Why am I suddenly filled with visions of a Maximum Motorsports K-member with my I6 brackets welded to it?

if you look you can find a fox with an 6 already in it.
i'm will be looking for one to build up when I start building a car again.
