I just got my 1 to 2 barrel adapter from clifford in and I just got my 68 not too long ago and I'm trying to learn most things as I go with some help from my neighbor who is a GM guy. I noticed the gasket is somewhat off and I don't know whether It should be cut to fit and I'm not sure what to do about the screw hole in the bottom of the adapter ( I'm guessing its for vacuum ) and I'm wondering if you can use a stock v8 throttle linkage for my holley 2300 to the six accelerator linkage. If anyone could give me any tips or is just willing to help out a noobie I would really appreciate it :)

I used the Clifford adapter for my 2bbl conversion. As far as the gaskets, if they are a little too big (the ones I got at the parts store were) you can cut them down. Be careful, you need to have a tight seal. I did not need to use one of the screw holes on the adapter (one connects for PCV hose routing; you will need to re-route your heater hose straight from the water pump to the heater core) so I plugged it with a bolt.

I used the V-8 throttle linkage and a Lokar cable throttle for my setup. It will differ with different applications but the basics are the same.

Click on my signature picture than click on the "Carburetor Upgrade" album for pictures of my cable throttle setup.

You need to make sure that the cable has a straight on pull at the throttle lever. You must also make sure there are sufficient mounting points for the throttle cable so it does not move around.

There is a lot of trial and error involved until you get the best solution.

Thanks, that helped a lot. I got everything installed on it now, I just have to figure out how to make the throttle work. Just so awkward with the throttle facing towards the front of the engine and pulling towards the drivers side. If you have any detailed instructions on how you mounted your cable or if anyone else knows another way of making it work I would appreciate it :) . Thanks for the help TheDude.

(The Dude is da man. Never ever did complex car stuff before until he did the carb swap, and it is a credit to him.

Check some of his old posts, and you'll find it explains things well. Can't emphasie that although a carb swap is simple, its only ever simple if you've done it before! It only ever works if you've got good quality stuff and the help of good friends

That GM guy needs a few 'beers' or whatever too. Great to see a neighbour helping out! A chevy guy near by is almost better than a Ford set on the net!)

Don't the 2300 carbs have a larger mounting pattern than the 2bbl adapters?. I used a Langdon's Stovebolt version-2X1 with a Holley/Weber 5200 but I thought it would take another adaptor for the 2300/7448/4412.

I used the cable linkage from a '71 Maverick for the YF 1bbl and it fit right on the 5200's ball stud - but rotated clockwise from BELOW the throttle shaft so I bent the cable down slightly.

I still have drivability problems with the 5200 and am investigating a 2300 series as an alternative.

The smaller is for a linkage setup, so ignore that if you're not going to use it. Isn't the large hole you refer to for the EGR valve? I need to find the piece of pipe to use to screw into that larger hole and hook up my EGR valve.
