have it running with it all hooked up and tuned. Audio is really good because I recorded at the drivers door so the mic doesnt overload, and you can really hear the glasspacks rapp when I romp on it. the headers are fordsixperformance headers, run through the roll pan into small rolled tips. best sound i've heard on a inline to date. we have an F100 with a 360 in it. the car sounds identical, so I must have done something right. ANYWAYS check her out! thanks to you guys who put up with my 100 stupid questions about the dizzy and timing issues I was having lol. The car with this setup, and the 5 speed, will scat! I had a 98 v6 5 speed and I have to say I've got the 66 on par if not faster than the 98. To those of you wondering if its worth the trouble...it is. And if you think people will think your a poser by hearing you at a redlight, listen to mine before you make that call.

Congrats! Sounds wicked

I really like the (gt) look of tips coming through the rear valance. 8)

So is that true duals all the way back with only the glass packs, no other muffler or resonators?
What size pipe did you use?

Nice work 66mustangdriver!

yep yep, its true duals now. long ago i bent the back roll pan, and decided if i had to buy a new one, it may as well be the gt one. i did that first, then saved up and had a Y put up front and ran duals w glasspacks, and out the pan. no resonator, and theyre the same size pipe as the primary pipe was from the old manifold. not sure exact size though. anyways i didnt have money back then (high school/college) for the split headers. well my dad wound up w the car so i could have a daily driver, a nice lil truck, while still keeping car in the family. i finally got him motivated enough to let me get back to work on it for him, and we got the headers installed and the Y cut and led on up to the split headers. so yeah true duals, 2 glasspacks, no h pipe, and pretty chrome tips. you still cant really tell how it truly sounds because it was in the garage and all loud in there.

ok, on the street once your to whatever speed and cruising, its a smooth deep rumble, but soft enough to have a chat inside the car no problem. once you get down on it it has a distinct PULSE like a true v8 with a quality exhaust system. it sounds AMAZING. my grand dad has always had about the best sounding vehicle i'd ever heard, a Ford (of course) F100 with a 360, true duals, glasspacks. Well now the car sounds exactly like it. Same pulse, and all. He was shocked. As for driving, the tranny, dizzy, carb, headers combo has made this car do a 360 performance wise. My dad really hammered it when we got home from the muffler shop and I threw him the keys. I could hear him really throwing down through the gears and when he got back all he could say was "AMAZING!!". He has since ordered new carpet, and got on the ball fixing it up. I reckon driving it running so good was enough motivation! HAHA! I hear a lot of them with flowmasters or turbo mufflers, but you guys trust me the glasspacks make it. dont redneck style em, dont bust them. just have them put in correctly and they sound great. Mine have been on there for 9 years so far and still look new.

also worth noting, back when I did my 5 speed swap, the trans is actually from a v6 not a v8 or 4. The gear ratios are actually set up for a 6 cylinder with about 140hp (as they had in 95). I had to grind about 2 inches off my input shaft but other than that it slipped right up to the adapter plate. The gearing is perfect for it though. Come to find out my 98 mustang had the same rear gears and same trans gears as our 66 does now, and the performance since the upgrades is almost exact, except the 66 weighs less :D

Now on my 98 I also had true duals, with all 4 catalytic converters removed, and glasspacks. It ran great, got 30mpg highway on one 4 hour trip once with 149k miles on it. Sounded like a GT too. Point is, the glasspacks people see on these old rednecked out z71's and junk, theyre not normal. Theyre blown out. Good glasspacks give an unmistakable (or in our case very mistakable) v8 sound, strong distinct deep throaty rumble! And face it, nothing flows better. The center tube restricts JUST enough to give a little backpressure, but a near perfect balance of flow and restriction. I love em.
im pretty confident if I get another 1st gen mustang, i'm getting another 6 and doing the same mods. for the mpg and ease of working on, you cant beat it.

Thanks for the posts!
Congraqts on the mods! Sounds like everything is just right.

"...doing the same mods. for the mpg and ..."
I thought the I6 did bout the same as the bent8 just 2 or 3 mpg better. What do you think you'll get when everything is straightened out/broke in/what have you?

Mods/specifics:
'66 200 engine
DSII
? 2V carb ? (which?)
'6 into 2' header/2 collectors & straight to mufflers
T5
14 inch tire
3.5 rear gear

can you add or correct above specifics (ie - carb used, ele fan?, ele fuel pump, etc?)?
