200-250 Swap --- Electronics/Distributor

It was actually pretty easy to get it in there. I ended up using the 250 engine mounts and the 200 engine mount brackets. The 250 is not noticably wider than the 200 at the mounts at least. I'll have to add shims so the 250 mounts and 200 brackets so they seat flush together though. Also, the engine doesn't clear the hood (with the low maverick air cleaner) by maybe 2/3 an inch. I'm going to extend the engine mounts downward and redrill the holes lower to drop it about an inch. I should have room to spare at that point. The fan actually clears the radiator but i may take off a bit from the spacer just a bit to give better clearance. The trans limes need to be rebent due to the lower mounting starter but i don't think much more than that.

Well that is a good job and a lot of useful info to help those wanting a 250 in an early Mustang. And you have a c4? That will be a fun combination with that extra low end torque. What is your axle ratio? What other mods do you have planned? I have thought about having a 66-67 with a 250 quite often. I hope you get to drive it soon!

Connor,

Thanks fer da post-back ~
Here’s hopin it’s “in the breeze” soon!

Terms used for assembly items: different parts of the country, different experience levels, all confuse things for this already confused guy…

I have heard ‘towers’ used for the frame brackets - and mounts for the part on the engine. Sometimes rubber isolates from the motor side, others it is on the frame side.

“…the 250 engine mounts and the 200 engine mount brackets.”
“…add shims so the 250 mounts and 200 brackets so they seat flush together…”

I’m thinking you did not use the whole ’78 Maverick system.
You used the 1966 200 frame towers and the unknown –yr-to-me 250 motor mounts on the engine? Have I got that right? If so what yr is the 250?
That you put a thin piece of metal between the two before they were bolted together? Are rubber isolators on either side of that added metal?

“…extend the engine mounts downward and redrill the holes lower to drop it about an inch…”
sounds like what we were calling ‘slot’ the mounts (egg out, elongate the bolt holes) the mounts on the motor to lower it. But your re-drilling – is that to the frame, towers, something else? Seems like several holes close together on the frame would weaken it just where it needs extra strength? Can U help me understand a lill more?
Thanks ~
