Question for yall... just picked up a 250 and got it rebuilt, dropping in a new cam, cant wait to get eribn my car!!

Im just wondering if the water pump on my 200 will fit on the 250, or do I need to pick up a new one. Stupid question I know but if yall can help ne out I appreciate it. Thanks yall

8) nope, the 200 has three bolts that hold it in place, and the 250 has four bolts.

8) there is a way you can use the 200 pump on the 250, but it involves a lot of fabrication of brackets, rerouting coolant hoses, belts, etc. the nice thing is that after the fabrication you would have plenty of room for a big electric fan if you like, as well as a thick radiator.

In most cases, a 250 swap requires a better, smaller replacement than the stock four bolt pump.

The US 250 water pump is also the same or nearly the same as the really common 250 water pump found on all 200 and 250's made in Australia from 1971...they went to a common partly US 250 style block.

Any 250 is a bit of a tall beast, with its pesky fan about 1.666" further up the radiator than a 200, so it is pest to fit in some of the early Round bodies as the front radiator cowl is too low in X-shell (and with later Fox body cars too).

The solution is to fit a remote EWP or other similar type of remote water pump. Then you only have to make an adaptor to suit. to easily clear the stock 200 fan, so these links will show you what you can do if space is restricted.

Because our Aussie X-flows and 2V 250's and US log heads run the same thermostat neck, you just need to copy what Our Aussie Six cylinder Cortina and Falcon guys do. They are always having the same problems as early Round body Falcon owners when a 250 six is put in.

See and do a search on balldrick's 1960 XK Falcon. He runs a Davis Craig electric fan.

On the X seies Falcon forum for 1960 to 1999 x-shell Ford, the Cortina owner is Cyco 250 on http://www.xfalcon.com/forums/index.php ... low-story/

Each show easily made Davis Craig/EWP electric water pumps which work really well when the instructions are followed.

@rbohm. Do you have a linky? I'm intrigued.

8) no link unfortunately, its an article i read several years ago, back in the early 80s in fact, about using a six cylinder pump from a gmc to replace a stock ford V8 pump, and remotely mounting it to gain clearance between the engine and the radiator for use in a street rod. you have to fabricate an outlet, and mounting brackets to make it work. and since it has been since the early 80s when i last read the article, the details are rather fuzzy(alas its true i am getting old now  ). if i run across the article again, its buried somewhere in my library, i will try to get it copied onto the computer and post it up, but dont hold your breath waiting for that.

Alright that works!
I'm contemplating moving to a 250, heavily modified in a couple years and as thinking electric pumps or that might help in my cause.
