200 galaxie

Hello I need some advice .Im about to buy à galaxie sunliner 1959 with à 460/C6 I think its to big
I have a 200/C4,My plan is to mill the log ,mount a Weber 32/36,headers,dui distributor.insert this combination
In the galaxie
Is it enough hp, torque? Another camshaft?

Best Regards Bjorn from Sweden

Beautiful Car, one of my all time favorites, but remember this is Detroit Iron and so it is heavy, very heavy. I am sure I would be disappointed with the 200 combination in such a big car. But then that is just the opinion of a Muscle Car fanatic.

Do you really think so? The 223 was a base motor in that year.

I'd run what you have. But if plan for a 250 or 300 upgrade soon.

I compare fairlane conv 1967 200/c4 shipping weight 3187 lbs galaxie sunliner 1959 223/fordomatic 3577 lbs 200= 120 hp 190 lb-ft 223= 145 hp 206 lb-ft The 223 has a more flat torque curve
I think the C4 is more efficient than fordomatic and lower weight ? So is there a solution to get more torque ? is the setup Im thinking of giving more torque or just more hp?

My deceased best friend had a 60 ford sunlinner 390 tri power 401 hp-think those are the numbers with 3 speed overdrive. That was a heavy car, but for that era it would go. It had an I beam x added to the frame to make it strong enough. The rear gear is going to be all wrong for most any six and the cubes to lbs is way off. BAD combo even for grandma!
Think 300

my advice is to forget the 200 in the galaxy, it doesnt produce enough torque for that car. much better would be to find a 240 or a 300, and use that engine instead. thebest option would be to use the V8 that came with the car.

I'm all for small block six power but the 200 seems too little power for too much work in a full size. But I have considered dropping a 250 six into a Ford that has a small block Ford V8. The 250 fits right in and onto SBF 157 tooth Bell/trannys auto or 3pedal. The 250 offers similar torque figures to the 302, can be upgraded to easily compete with a SBF but is no performance match for a BBF 460 ...

have fun

A friend has a nice looking mid-80's Ford pickup with crappy SBF 351 and I'm lobbying for the 250 SIX conversion ... .

thanks for all information. I think I will skip the 200 . A 300 would be nice but they are hard to get here in Sweden, maybe I can find a 250 , V8s are no problem to get, here in Sweden there a lot of american cars from the 50s 60s 70s
