will this work without modding the firewall?

My mother had a 78 Celica GT. The engine bay seemed fairly large. I think it could go with little to no modding.

this isn't my car but would it be a point in putting in a 6 to replace the high reving DOHC 4 cyl in one of these Mustang CLones?

If it had to be a six, I think I'd opt for a Supra engine myself...

Yeah, that's just a crazy idea. The toyota's two liter or 2.4 liter four cylinders will make more power than the ford 200 and quite a bit of torque, too. If you were isntalling a six, you should use the supra engine. It would be a lot easier to adapt (it eventually went in that chassis, I think) and would make gobs more power than a 200. it probably weights less, too, being made largely of aluminum

thanks guys, but that just craps out my plan.
So would you say that there is 0 benefit from putting in the 200
-parts
-fuel economy
-parts
-ease of repar
- price of parts
-parts
-availibility of parts

I think I would opt for the 4AGE as well . Nice rever and can be built to decent power levels, far in excess of the 20R that's probably in the car now.

Torque is a lot lower than you'd find with a 200, but swaps like that are hard. Any time you do alien engine and transmission swaps, the little things just kill you.

Reminds me of JD's swap, where initially, he forgot about the starter.

I would bet Dellow's offer a kit for the Falcon engine in an early Sillycar.

Cheers, Adam.

I say go for it - a 4age and rebuild is gonna cost upwards of 1000 bones - with no performance upgrades - but you can get a decent 200 for under 500 bones. And you don't have to worry about hooking up the electronics on the feulie 4age.
Figure a stock fuel injected 4age puts out something like 110-130 net hp. A 200, maybe 90. That's where you lose. But then you've got almost twice the torque - 190 vs. about 100 ft-lb. So you'll have better 60-foot times with the 200, better 1/4-mile with the 4age. For all out racing and cost no object, I would do the 4age, but if it's a fun tire shredddin daily driver, I'd go 200. And no, the toyota I6 engine didn't eventually go into that chassis, it went into the AE86 chassis in the celica supra.

thanks man,
i was asking the silly question cuz iave a 200 in a fairmont wagon right now and i wanna put in something goodlooking
The reason I thought about the celica cuz it looks kinda like a old mustang fastback and 60's mustangs are expensive here

Yup, they're expensive here too! (Ottawa). You guys are just lucky you don't have to worry about rust! Old Toyotas are pretty rare out here. Hell, my 89 Toyota's fairly rotten.

The Celica should be a lot lighter than a mustang, no? And the same wheel bolt pattern!

dude find a 2.4L dohc motor from a cavalier or a sunfire .. my Z24 was nice .. stock 150hp 180tq

I once considered putting a small block chevy in my '57 chevy truck. Cheap, right, I mean, after all, the 283 was an option back then and it would have been real easy to pull the 235 6cyl and plop in that V-8. I sat down, started putting numbers on papar, and I could not believe the price.

I came to this conclusion:

Engines are the cheap part of an engine swap.
