my 200 idles real rough and hesitates between shifts otherwise runs strong. I usually need to pump the gas about 30 times on first start . I put a holley single on it . Ive replaced about everything else the miss gets worse as the engine heats up any ideas

Howdy Zman:

vacuum leak(s)
retarded initial advance.
weak plugs.
dirty carb, idle system.

There are some ideas. Have you done a vacuum check? Compression check?

What carb and distributor are you working with?

Adios, David

I got a rebuilt stock dist and a rebuilt holley 1 barrel got another head Im going to put on. I moved the vacum line from the manifold to the carb and it idles much better, but the engine still stubbles bad. btw the car sat for years before I got it so not much history with it except that Ive been driving it for a year

and...have you checked fuel pump?

see, my theory is itmay be the pump, as he has to pump many times to prime the carb...like the fuel is running back down the lines....

and that is caused by fuel pump valve being bad...right?

for $18...its a worthwhile change...

If the fuel line is sucking a little air before the pump (like from a crack in the tank to hard line rubber section) you could also get a lean miss.

Cheers, Adam.

and this crack might not show as a leak...right?

just somehtiing else for me to check....

hmmm...and the best way to check for this is with a match?
seriouisly...how do i check other than a visual inspection?

i still think all my problems are carb related

Yup, sometimes you've just gotta crawl around under there and get dirty :? Replace anything that looks suspect. On a car that old, it will probably ALL look suspect

HI
Another way would be to prusherize the tank. By putting an air hose with the regulator turned way down (so you don't blow your pump diraphram )in the tank and seal it off with some rags. wouldn't need to be air tight just tight enouff to make some prusher. Then crawl underneath and look for leaks.

HI YA ZIPPOMAN
I would check for fuel prusher and flow. and check the excelerator pump.
look down the carb and move the linkage and see if any fuel is being squirted inside by the excelerator pump. there should be a good amount not just a dribble.

I'll give your Ideas a try. could there be a piece of trash in my fuel pump causing this? btw I did get my new head on today but it still stumbles when I shift or accelerate

thanks zippoman

Zippoman, what year is your vehicle or engine???? sounds like you have no accerator pump shot. If the carburetor is the autolite, you may have a check ball missing from the accerator pump circuit. If you have a strong pump shot when you open the throttle look elseware?? Need more information on your combination to give further help. Lets us know. William
