I've been reading around the forum and have decided to go with a US '78 250/200 head. my question, questions rather were, What is needed to do this swap? What should be done to the head? Can i still use my Chrome 200 Valve cover? If there's something i forgot to ask, adrress it any way. I dont want to do this half ass. My dad has a '67 with a 302 and he says that modifying my engine is a waste of time. I'd like to prove him wrong. What mods would be needed so that i can beat my dad. We both have nine inch posi rearends and T5's. Any info that can help me beat my dad will be greatly appreciated.

yes the valve cover will fit . Lets see how put you`r dads stang to shame   have you`r new head milled .060 and ported, get a 5200 carb , 3.75:1 gears,a nice cam of you`r choice ,1.6:1 roller tipped rockers, and a header have fun :D

Is your dads 302 built up?

If so you may need to go to a Argie or Oz 250 head. You will have a hard time breaking 200hp, but youw ill also weigh about 250lbs less.

show this to your dad, tell him that this is what a six can do (with a turbo mind you, but still...)

i love this picture... it makes me sleep well at night....

thanks guys. to answer all ur questions, no it's nor built up. It's out of a 1986 Mustang 5.0. More questions....

1) If i get the US 250/200 head milled .75, ported, three angle valve job, what should be the power icrease? Considering every thing else is stock.

2) I've read of people using adjustable roller rockers and 289 pushrods... are those necassarry? Do they help?

3) I've also read of people using 144 intake valves as exhaust valves for the250 head. Is this worth the trouble and recommendable?

4) Does this head need the port divider that is needed for the older heads with headers?

5) what would be the overall power increase?

do i have to get a '78 250 water pump or can i use the same one?

Actually, I wouldn't worry all that much about beating a stock V8. I've surprised quite a few of the bent 8s & other "hi-pro" motors with my humble litte 4-main, 1bb stock 170 in the '63 falcon. Had one guy tell me that I couldn't even go down the interstate without at least a 289/302. Smoked him, up a hill. You'll be just fine with a 250. Take care,
Edwin
