Howdy! I'm new to this site and it is pretty damn cool! I own a 1964 Mercury Comet whith a 1966 Mustang 200 I6 and C4 tranny. The engine needs work so I need to know what is good to upgrade. I was thinking of new headers from Clifford or FordSixParts (which is better?), a new dual roller timing chain from Clifford or FordSixParts (again which is better?), a new Duraspark II distributor w/Petronix ignition system, and new camshaft. What would be an appropriate cam for a daily stop&go driver but max HP and mileage? What companies do you reccomend Comp, Clay Smith, Crane, ect...? I was also thinking of an alternator setup instead of a generator. Will a generator even fit with new headers? If any other upgrades are a good idea, or if any are unnecessary please let me know. THANKS!

hey

welcome to ford six, to answer your depends on your pocket book if you are doing a reuild i would get the head from Mike (fordsixparts.com) headers from Mike, a clifford port divider, and a Cam frm Clifford. i would go with a Weber Carb from Clifford, for stop and go driving, but if you want a nice running car and hell of mean sound go with a holly 2300 series carb or a holly 5200 series carb.. In june Clifford is coming out with an Aluminum head For our engines witch they made me a garentee that it will make my Falcon run like a Bad out of hell i cant wait. Comp cams are good but for our eninge they are known for runing a little ruff, the cam is totally your choice how ruff do you like, but some people think the ruffer the idle the more horse power this is not totaly truei would recremend to you to read the cam selection um ford six tech articals for the cam. good choice for you igntion, i am runing a mallory but i wish i did what you said. if you are doing a rebuild i would ut dished pistons in her to increase compression. if you give me your email adress i will send you a cool file that clifford sent me on the choises of parts.

I checked out www.cliffordperformance.com about the aluminum head and the estimated date of availability is 1/1/04. You must be getting the first off the line.

On the FordSixPerformance website, they say that if you order a complete head you have to do a bunch of crap to it, like rebuild, ect... So I am sceptical for spending $600 on a head that has to have work done to it. I would like to spend $1000 on the entire engine (give or take a little).

if your only looking to spend a 1,000.00 you can get engine kits for around 500-550.00 for the rebuild that comes in standar .30 .40 .60 id wouldnt go over .40 for a daily driver id got to .30 then your looking at do you want a mild cam or stock cam the kit comes with a stock cam i paid 650.00 for my kit .40 over and a mild-wild cam lunati cam it is a upgrade just have them put in a cam of your choice and take the stock one out in replace most places will do that for around 60 to 100 extra the do you want to keep your 1b carb that could be anywere from realy depends on what carb you want i got a holley 2bbl 500 cfm for 209 at summitt raceing

General,
That head is an australian 2v head. It is probably the single biggest performance mod you can make to your engine. Bolt it, properly milled for compression, on to a stock engine with a header, a two barrel carb and a duraspark and you will pick up tremendous power. Hard to get those heads in the US. It's a good deal. Look up previous postings from mustangaroo on this topic. He did some dyno testing. quite impressive.

id go with the argentina ME head b4 i went to the 2v just my opinion tho maybe cause i got one lol

I just rebuilt wifes 200 in 66 mustang. I used headers from swapmeat, port diveder from clifford, duraspark from junk yard, carb off 300 6 with home made adp, I called comp cams & gave them specs & want with ther recomendion. Its not as fast as a 302 but gets 24-28 mpg on freeway& has a fair amount of passing power up to about 65mph
