I was wondering if it were possible (and if it should be done?) to put a 4 valve holley carb on my inline six. its on a 1967 ford stang ... evertything is stock, and im about to get ready to have the engine rebuilt .. so i was wondering if that would be good (and if iit could even fit)

also, another question .. is it possible to have dual exhaust system on the inline six?

You can use a 4 barrel on that engine if you want, if you get or make the correct adaptor.

Dual exhaust can be run using a dual outlet header, like those available through fordsixparts.

welcome to the forum

there is a ton of info on here. pull up a chair and read....

to give general answers to your questions...
dual exhaust? sure...reccomended
4 bbl? overkill...you dont need it. a good upgrade is a 2 bbl...but you need to adapt it to the head. later comes the 4v if you do enought mods to warrant it...

please do some searches in the performance section and you will find lots of posts from people who have done this. The post will tell you things like carb reccomendations, linkage problems and solutions and air cleaner clearances..

again...welcome. there are plenty of mods you can do to a 200

hey thanks a lot. I've had the car for about a year now. i've only had my license for like a couple of months, so i dunno too much about the inline six yet. Around where i live, its all about engines.. i have a 302 in the garage (but after reading here, and the 6 = 8, i wanted to stay with the l-6 ...) so thats why i wanted the bigger carb .. plus, my friend suggested that if it can be done, i should do it.
But like, if i may ask .. how is the 4bbl overkill? like wat do u mean exactly (sorry, im not too familar with all the terms n stuff, hehe)

a 4V isn't overkill if the engine, specifically the head, is worked on. You'll notice that those of us running a 4V have the Aussie 250/2V head and intake manifold. You'll soon learn that the greatest downfall of the 200 is not the 6 cylinders, but the asthmatic log head that starves the cylinders of fuel and air.

By overkill for a log head, the following is meant. imagine a 2 liter bottle of coke and a 12 oz can. now, take the same size straw and suck coke out. Is the 2 liter bottle any faster? No...because you are sucking it through the same size straw. That is in essence what the log head does. It can only flow so much before the carb is not the issue limiting the performance. Even a 350cfm Holley 2V will be a little too much for a log head but will be better for performance then the stock 1V carb.

Now, the few of us running a modified aussie intake with the 4V are having great success with the 4V. I'm running a 390 4V and I love it. It's great.

I'd hold off on the 4v for now. If you are getting the engine rebuilt, do the following:

1) New 260-272* cam
2) Enlarged intake and exhaust valves with hardened seats
3) Port divider and headers
4) Electronic ignition
5) 350CFM 2V Holley 2300 or 5200.

That will give you a great platform to continue for the 6. Most of that stuff won't cost too much if you are getting the engine rebuilt except for the carb and headers.

WELCOME!

CHaz was correct. Carbs to engines is alot like beer to drinkers. One can or bottle at a time, in sips is economic. A couple of cans in 5 mins is good solide performance. Trying to suck down a couple of 32oz'ers in 5 mins is overkill...literally and figuratively.

The inline 6 can only swallow so much gas. With your stock engine a 2bbl would be alot but almost too much. Three singles is normal for a built engine. A 4bbl without the upgrades to the engine would be a waste of money and gas. It may have the cool factor while parked but it would be worse than fried rice when you stomped it!

as the other have said. "throwing " a 4 bbl on there is not going to help any. You will need other performance options to make the 4 bbl even work and be effictive. Good head work, header good flowing exhaust and port divider to start. A good 3 bbl would be sufficient now.

YEA CHAZ
They made a 3B carb I think it was Chrysler but I may be wrong.
HHHHMMMMM I wonder how hard it would be to make one of those work on the Log???

Holley made a 3 barrell in the 70's, it was like a 4v, but the secondaries had one large oval throttle blade instead of 2 round ones like the primaries... I guess the idea was the oval flowed more air... must not have been too excellent being they don't make them anymore...

How about the Ford inline 4-bbl? The "Cross Boss" 302 intake used them on racing boss 302's in the early 70's. Admittedly rare today, here's a picture of two of them on a 427.

i am always one short of something...

its costs $6...i have $5

LOL

all kidding aside, that weber 3B is about the sexiest option i've seen for the 200 I6 - anyone tried that yet? too tall? too expensive?
