200ci Rod bolts

I'm in the process of building up my 65 200 and I was just wondering if it was really necesary to use locktight or something like it on the rod or main bearing bolts. Thanks.

i didn't use it. i think if you use a torque wrench and torque everything down right then you shouldn't need it. i just used some 30wt oil on them and torqued them down to the ARP specs.

but i've only built one engine so i'm a total novice, this is just what I gathered during my engine build. i think some people may use locktite on the flexplate to crank bolts but i didn't do that either.

maybe you already know this, don't be offened if you do, but make sure to tap the main cap down flush against the block before bolting them down. the main caps fit tight into position and if you try to bring them down by tightening the bolts they could catch on the edge and then break the bolts.
if you already knew that don't take any offense, it's just i didn't know that and it caused me some problems.
