i guess that anthing about these early ford engine combos can confound you .

bought a 200ci engine with 5 freeze plugs - should be 7 main bearings
hey - but when i pulled the sump off lo and behold its 4 mains.

its a C4 block (I think - need to check that in the garage)

but its been rebuilt by ford australia at some time in the past so is in good condition.
so will get used

anyone wiser out there why its 5 plugs and only 4 main bearings ?

They didn't switch to the 7-main design until '65, as far as I know. You got the first year of the 200, which still had the old design.

addo-

its a C code and narrow block - has a plate to take it out to wide block and fit the BW35 auto

That's a genuine XM 200, then. The BW adaptor plate alone is worth $100 or so.

does it just being C code mean its imported ? - canada ?

as ARC means aust production.

the eng numbers stamped on it dont conform to the xp numbers - ie prefix SD - so guessed it may be from an XM (or overseas) car

i pick it back up off the machinists who have decked the block today - just got to get it back together with a 260deg cam and get back cruising.

Not sure. The first Australian delivered 200s came in the XM, and they may have been US long motors. That C-code just means it's 1960s and not produced specifically for the Australian marketplace.

I believe the "AR" stands for "Australian Requirements" or similar.
