Im in the final process of re-installing my 221 (bored out, modified 2V head, holey, extractors, etc) and T5 manual into my XP and i'm after a bit of advice. The T5 came from an XF S pac and has a cable clutch, my pedal box suits a clutch cylinder (which I have) can my gearbox be changed to suit or will I need to run the clutch cable that came with the gearbox?

Thanks for any help

Yes. The clutch release mechanism was cable operated from the left hand side with the XF, and the last hydralic clutch Flacon was the XC.

What you do is find the set-up Jack Collins (MustangSix) used for his 65 Mustang with Falcon X-flow and Aussie Toploader bellhousing. It was a CMC brand item.

The stock cluch master cylinder from an XA-XC should be okay, but you will need to arrange a fork which has the same dimensions as the T5 item. I'd say JD or Mustang Six could help, or you could modify the stock one to suit.

The clutch must suit the 221 flywheel. I think the biggest they had was 9.125", so the stock EFI T5's 9.5" plate may just fit.

Isn't it great that the 1986 on wards Falcon bellhousing is the same as the 1966 to 1985 Falcons?

your xp should have had a mechanical linkage from the factory but if not i doubt the master cylinder from an XC will fit as the 2 mounting bolts are on the diagonal. models prior to the XA had the mounting bolts vertically

Easy
Use the bellhousing from an early six, XR on with hydraulic clutch, the t5 should be able to be adapted to that, the 3 speed housing should work with the spigot hole enlarged.
the XP will have a hole in the firewall where a clutch master cylinder will bolt up. Make up a pedal pushrod etc from xr on , use the standard slave cylinder.
221s have same flywheel as xr on sixes up to xy then cr4ank flange changed to V8, the clutch on xt xw six was 9.5inch which is OK for 221 with 2v head (ive done this years ago) a 350 holley works Ok although a 500 will give more power, at a cost of course. But dont dont try to run too much cam with single large carby like the 500 holley, no more than say a EFI type of grind.
Dont try and use the stock diff youll break the pinions a BW is good. Dont be talked into a 9 inch there too heavy.
The 221-2v should shift the p allong quite nicely and keeps the car pretty stock.

Thanks for that info. I have a five stud diff that was orginally fitted to the car when I bought it (then got changed to a four stud diff to match the front). I want to put this back in but I have no idea what it is from, the diff ration is 3.50:1 and it has the small locating holes for the leaf springs, I think it is it from an XR or T does that sound right?

Just for a bit of trial and error I have the XF clutch bolted up to the 221 flywheel and when I turn the motor over everything seems to work without any problems so should it be ok to run this clutch (its almost brand new and the clutch that came with the flywheel is completely worn out)?

If a bellhousing and hydraulic clutch from a 3spd cant be found could the original cable setup be used (with some reinforcing at the firewall and modified clutch pedal)?
