223 no idle

Hello everyone. I have a 59 f100 with a 223 cid Prob being very fustrating when cold and choked starts fine as soon as warmed up will not maintain idle other than partly choked (super high rpm) Have checked and/or fixed any vacuum leaks. cleaned out carb (1 barrel holley I think 1904) checked and adjusted point gap and set timing no change one thing I can't get to adjust is mix screw on carb at lowest idle i can get. I can turn it in all the way or twice the recommended (1.5 turns out) no change in rpm engine runs the same. Any ideas greatly welcome!!!!!!! Thanks Tim PS at lowest running rpm- rev engine a few times let it down like engaging clutch will die!!

Your information is pretty limited but based on symptoms alone, I will take a guess. It sounds as if the idle passage in the carburetor may be plugged. If so, remove the idle mixture screw and blow the passage out with some compressed air. Then re-set the screw at a turn and a half like you mentioned and see what happens. That's only a "SWAG" but give it a try and let us know the result. Best of luck!

You can also try bringing the RPM to 2000-2500 and pulling the choke shut until it almost stalls. Sometimes that will suck a piece of dirt through. Not sure that's the problem but sounds like it from your description of having to keep the choke partially closed and the idle speed high to stay running.
