ive been told that you can bolt a 292 and 312 y block fordomatic to a 223 inline six straigh up. but the y block c4 kits wont fit on a 223 six. so im lost. could someone foward me pix of a bellhousing for a 292 or 312 fordomatic, trans to motor side so i can see the bolt patter please. thanks

y blocks dont interchange with anything.but an inline 6 shares the same bell as a sbf so id just call a junkyard and find a c4.

Y block Ford V 8s use exactly the same 4 bolt pattern to bolt the bell housing to the motor as do the 215/223 six cylinder Fords. The flywheel bolt pattern is also the same. The sbf and sixs that the previous poster refers to are later model engines and have several 5 and 6 bolt bolt patterns, all different from the early six and y block v 8. If an adapter plate will fit the y block, it will fit the 223 six. If a flexplate or flywheel will fit the y block crankkshaft, it will fit the 223 six. The adapter kits are expensive, maybe the best choice is to fit the later model automatic model c5 or fmx. They might fit the early bell housing too.

positive. i just dont wann get somthing torn apart and find out that it ain gonna work. not second guessing. just wanna make sure thats all.

Correcting my previous post, the bell housings do NOT interchange between the 215/223 Ford 6 and the Ford y block (239/254/272/292/312). The bolt patterns are different, nothing lines up. Sorry.

Y-Blocks are the mad nooch, first of all. I LOVE my 272, and wouldn't ever have anything in my '56 pickup, except for the 312 I have on the bench getting built. =DDD
