250 2v air cleaner

i just find it hard to belive that so many 2v cars were fitted with a twin system and people say they are an after market twin systems.why is it only this engine?you don't see any other 6cyl engine with a twin system.mmmm

The key pint is that the V8 engines were all imported until the first Clevlelands were made in Australia. A guy short on funds, or wanting the go of a GT 289 OR 302 without the insurance, would have jumped on a top loadered 250 2v. Especially when 245 Pacers were so cheap. Twin pipes were stock with a cash outlay of well under 2900 bucks in 1971.

It's a typical issue. The truth will only come out when the stock SIDO or RPO code is checked.

Good luck.

I'm pretty sure the SIDO info is lost now. They had it back about '87 but since then... Like I said, a good look at the hanger brackets is a tell-tale.

Some historical detail:

Page 11 of the XA catalogue reprinted in the Ford Falcon Collection (A.C Bushby, 1987) lists the option of the 2V as "Special 250 CID, 170-horsepower Six..."

Footnote on the same page states: " (f) Dual exhaust available only with 302 CID and 351 CID V 8 engines"

Going back to the XY catalogue, page 23 gives this footnote: " (e) Dual exhaust available with 351CID V 8 only"

As I said, can't rule out "never on any car". There are some uncoded cars and custom builds, too (hearses and other variants mostly). Leather seat trim was another thing that very occasionally sneaked into some cars, I understand. Ah well, the mystery lives anther day.

Just to add to this.
Many cars were modified at the dealership before being sold to the customers.
These cars were sometimes branded with a dealer code or name.
Bib Stillwell in victoria was calling some cars BBS modified or something like that.
It was a long time ago!.
Another is the "continental coupe". This was around in the XB coupe. The cars had a sunroof and a half vynal roof applied with a "Continental" badge applied to both rear pillars.
So there could have been many cars that were sold with modifications from new and these taken as gospel as what was available.

Continental coupes? That rings a bell. I can recall the vinyl trim covering the top 3-4" of the door and rear side window lower panel. Also on Fairlanes? Correct, Noel?

The "mythical" one that gets me is the 221/C4 combo. I still haven't conclusively disproved it's development, but it may never have seen the live market; all six autos then being BW's.

FWIW, I tend to like the stealth of a small single exhaust. Of course, you might have a straight through bypass gate further up the pipes...

Adam.

Ive seen a 221 in a XP persuit wagon witch had 2 Carbs on it and a hole in the manifold which appeared to be factory sealed awiating the 3rd carb??
As for twin exhausts, well they dont belong on this forum, end of story.

does that mean if a six has a twin system on it its not welcome here?in 71 if you had money ford would do just about anything 1 wanted, just because a "book"says so don't realy mean it was totaly followed.there are heaps of cars that prove this.

Adam,
Yes, the continental kit on the coupe', had the vynal roof either ending straight across at the quarter panel/pillar join. Or had a spear of vynal pointing forward down each side of the quarter panels almost to the doors.
This could have been on some Fairlanes, but I only remember seeing the coupe's.
I also believe this is for anyone who has/uses an inline six.
The number of exhausts, carbies or camshafts is immaterial.
The enjoyment of motoring is the idea of this area!

If you are still looking for a stock 250-2V air cleaner? I have several. Sorry I didn't see this earlier.

Aww Steve... That's not fair. What about the Chargers?

Also, isn't any old car essentially a WOFTAM? I am pretty straight these days, and the money I would have squandered goes much better on this addiction.

If you enjoy doing stuff on it, like owning it, and just having a project car makes it easier to get out of bed in the morning and be nice to people, isn't it basically a winner?

Adam.

Wow team this has been a contentious topic!
I think the notion that the 2V's only came with the single exhaust is probably correct.
I was an 11 year old car nut when the XY was released and I don't recall any 6's having twin exhausts. I know I added to the debate above but after stating that mine was a twin exhaust (it was 9 years old when I got it in 1980, locked in a garage for 7 years!) I recall that there was some welding and fabrication done to the exhaust.
Also back then, the 2V was a poor man's V8 and all the 351 GS and GT's were running around with twin systems. (Dunno about the 302's?!)
Alas my current car is running a single 2 inch pipe which I hate.
It will be getting a nice twin system soon.

Addo, time and money isnt something i have a lot of :(
Love the extra daylight hours and great weather this country gives us but :D
Changers well they scare me a bit, dont get me wrong a great ride and theyre a beaut of a car, but my mates old Centura with a mild built E49 spec 265 4 speed, killed my 302W Corty (i hated that car for it and it was a POS).
And then the time i got slaughtered by a Charger. Man i caught up with him at the lights and we pulled into a car park for a look.
It was 265 with a hybrid T4. and it had twin exhausts  He said why not he paid over a grand for the custom extractor T4 manifold. Nice.
