The 250 crossflow in my '90 XF ute is well and truly due for a bit of work. The ute has a 2.77 LSD and 215 75R15 4WD tyres and an Auto. The Auto is soon to be replaced with a T50D and I had a plan for the engine but that has gone to crud after reading this forum for about 12 hours. I don't want to drag or race but I want a bit of go, has anyone got any suggestions for a good carby/manifold/piston/cam/head combination which will suit my purpose?

why don't you tell us what the plan was?
it'll help get an idea of what you wanted

more info would help a lot

The plan was to fit extractors with 2.5 zorst, roller rockers, 35/70 cam, port matched head, std. intake and carb.

I'm leaning towards an ultraflow inlet with holley 500 now but I am concerned about economy.

why not get a Crow EFI cam, Wolf computer and an EFi intake? that'll make some Very Decent power, with more torque than you can spin a tyre at.

or go for a hotter cam and taller gears, since you're going the T5.. get a diff shop to put in a set of 4-pinion 3.27s or 3.45s, they go well with the T5's overdrive.

Have you considered a toyota steel case / supra gearbox? they're cheaper than T5s, and word has it they take more punishment...

Work you way up with the things u have mentioned is my personal opinion.
Start with exhaust and extractors together with the 5 speed and lower diff ratio.
Roller rockers are to expensive to justify buying them to me.
