250 engine rebuild

The engine is at the machine shop along with my falcon book. He is very good with all types of engines (currently rebuilding a 1932 stright 8 now that an inline big block). I want to go with 2 32/36 webers direct mounted on the log. I have the 1969 motor mounts so I believe that with those my new engine will sit 1.5" higher than it does now. I currently have a single weber sitting on an adapter which is very high. If I turn the carbs 180 so that the bowl is to the exhust side I think I can lower them an inch. I belive it will fit under the hood if my numbers are right. What are your guys thoughts, has any one tried this on a 68? Thanks in advance.

If the linkage is on the same side as the H/W 5200, which I think it is. You may need the fuel bowl towards the valve cover just to be able to work the linkage. With my head milled for a direct mount H/W 5200, I had 1 1/4" of spacer to clear the valve cover.

The bottom end is going to similar to what Gene is running in his maveric (copying is a form of flattery :) )and thought that two webbers would give better air flow but I am having a hard time trying to shoehorn this carb set under the hood. Any other carb suggestions? I have thought about one holley 500 but the two carb system
1. looks great
2. gives the outer cyl. better fuel delivery.
I was trying to stay away from the three carb setup as I dont want to have to buy three new carbs. I do have 1carb from my 68 and one from 69 not to sure of the difference but i guess i could get another to match the 68 and put the 69 in the center. Trips look great but was trying for the four bbl effect. If I go trips what kind of air flow numbers are you guys getting?

Well both the block and head passed magna flux and are getting media blasted tonight. I should get the head back tomarrow for my port work. I am going with 1.75 intake and 1.5 exhust the springs with dampners from CI. I wanted the Duel carb but the weber 2 bbl is tall so that will get direct mounted to the center and go with 1bbls on the outsides. The machine shop deals alot with comp cams and says they will make anything he wants so he will have to compete with the clay smith cam that I want ( hyd 274/274 .45 life 224 duration 110lc range 1800-5600). Also waiting to see if mike has any of those 255 pistons in stock. I'll keep you all posted and if I get anything worth taking a pic of I'll post that too.

You should have them Bowl hog and rough in the seats before you port, it will be a little bit more money invested, but worth it. It gets a lot of the stuff out of the way and helps you shape the port better. Then take it back to them and have them finish the seats.

I asked if he should do the valves first and he said no, but since you brought that up I think I will have him rough them in as you say. seems like it would make my life easier and I would have less chips to clean out in the end.
