alright i'v got a 78 monarch with a 250 and its in need of a new exhaust the car is now 25 years old and no longer needs a emission test so i'd like to know what parts will swap and from what year cars and so on,you guys know like the per-emission parts that may work like maybe the set up off a 70 mustang with a 250 or some I6,i could have the muff. shop do the work but there pricing is sky high and i like doing the work myself any way, thanks guys

Wasn't the Maverick sedan on the same 109.9" wheelbase, with just a narrower track? It just might fit. Ask for '71-'74 250 sedan exhaust, and you'll avoid the catalytic converter.

Any other ideas folks?

do you have a mig? if so I would got he j bend route and weld it up that way. did my head pipe that way and took maybe an hour. get a real nice fit and flow that way too.

Howdy TNT:

Does you Monarch have the quick light catalytic converter attached directly to the exhaust manifold? If so, you will need to change to an earlier 250 exhaust manifold. Look to a '69 to '75 Maverick/Comet/Mustang as a source. Then it is a simple matter of having a muffler shop build you a 2" or 2 1/4" exhaust system. I'd add a turbo type muffler of the same inner diameter as the pipes. This will likely be no more expensive than ordering a specific kit and doing the usual adaptations- and a lot less work.

Removal of the old manifold could be a bugaboo. Use lots of penetrating oil. A plus of this upgrade will be that you will lose about 50 pounds of dead weight, smoother idle, better economy and cooler running.

Adios, David

the set up now on the car is manafold then 2.5 foot L shaped pipe then converter then the pipe over the rear end then muff.,what i was hoping for was a bolt on with little to no mod.'s maybe a mav. might be close if not then its off to the muff. shop ,and thats 300 bucks that seems a little to high for me
