250 going in this weekend

The machine shop has been taking their time with the build, but doing all the little things I asked.
Intake log has been milled and opened for a 2bbl and mounted the adapter plate.
I found a used Holley 500 2bbl to supply the fuel ($25 and looks good).

The shop was having a hard time finding the recommended cam 268/274 to use with a C4, and was going to put one in "slightly more than stock", which I shut down. In a panic I made some phone calls, and lucky enough, Schneider (which is only a few miles from my place) is going to make me their grind .465/.465 lift 280/290 adv. 220/230 @ .050
let me know if this might be to much for our 61 Comet with C4

Anyone have any last minute tid-bits of info for our weekend swap, or things to look out for?

Just wondering, you know Mike has a 268/274 on the website.
Why were you trying to get it somewhere else?
The specs are a bit different, I suppose.
Adv dur - 268/274 Dur @.050 - 208/218 Lift -.455/480 Lobe center - 110* Range - 1600-5400

I went with this one, just haven't got it in the car yet:

Adv dur - 264/274 Dur @.050 - 214/224 Lift -.450/.450 Lobe center - 112* Range - 1400-5200
Mike said a 112* LC provides a better vacuum for the C4.

Been away for a bit, sorry if this has been covered. What all have you done to your 250? What is it out of? Have you already swapped your mounts? Have you had any clearence issues? I'm thinking of putting a 250 in my 66 so I'm pretty curious about this. Thanks, Matt.

That was the cam I recommended to my builder, I even gave him the book David wrote, and he jotted down notes and gave me back the book. I thought all was good, but something fell throught the cracks. I talked to David shortly after I posted, and he recommended stepping down to Schneiders 210/220 @.050. I'm going with Schneider because I don't have time to order one and have it Fed-Ex'ed, plus they are really close to me (8-10 miles) and will grind it for me by the end of the day.
There for bettering the odds of me getting my mill by Friday afternoon.

Well Matt, to answer your questions, I'll have to get to you on Monday. By then we'll find all that out as far as the mounts and any clearence issues.
I'm curious about this myself.

Any updates?

I've been moving kinda slow due to a galbladder operation the week before, so a couple guys from the car club along with my old man came over to help out.

Took the 170 out along with the bell housing.
Put in the 250 and checked for measurements. As I knew, the block was 3/4 wider. Having a plasic fab shop, I have quite a bit of plexiglass for template material. Ended up if you drill one hole between the stock holes in the motor mounts, and the other hole 3/8" to the outside of the outside hole, they'll line up.

Plus we had to massage the fire wall for clearence for the C4's bell housing, and top mounting bolts.
When it's time to hook up the tranny I'm not sure if I'll drill holes in the fire wall to put in the upper bolts or tilt to engine back and try it that way.

I haven't touched it all week due to the surgery wounds trying to heal, and trying to get orders out to my costomers.

That's it for now.
I'm also shopping for headers.

I want to mention that when I put the 250 in my '61 Comet I modified the front mounts the same way and they fit well. I do worry that the torquey 250 engine will rip the mounts apart and plan on drilling through the plates and rubber to put bolts through to limit movement. If your car has the "belly bar" it may interfere with the oil pan but I have a fix' if you need .

Also, I had "formed" the firewall with the BFH to clear the (Toploader) bell but when I put the engine in, the additional height of the block caused the rear of the head to hit the firewall further up when I raised the tranny to the rear mount. I had to additionally form the area behind the head.

this is a close up of the rear of head hitting firewall

and inside the firewall after additional "forming"

 Muah ha ha ha ha
good thing you didn't jump off a bridge, or I might have done that too.

I wish I had more time to stay right on top of it. My dead line to have it rolling was Dec. 9th for the Mooneyes x-mas party at the Irwindale drag strip in LA.
Oh well.......

Thanks for all the pictures.
I drilled my holes in those brackets you painted, not in the mounts that bolt to the motor. Hmmmmmm, I wonder which is stronger.

I have about 2 inches before the head hits the fire wall, but then again I don't have the tranny in there yet. Although the engine appears to be sitting level.

I'll try to get some pictures up on photobucket for you guys.

Hey Powerband, what headers are those? and what did you do to that belly bar (cross member)?
