250 into a 63 Falcon vert

So as it goes the 170 in the 63 runs but not by much and the 2 speed kind of shifts. I got a 73 maveric for a doner car, tore the motor out and started the tear down for the rebuild, and the block was cracked, hell it ran good when i drove it home. So any how I have one 170 thats done for and one 200 thats junk and found a rebuilt stock 1980 250 out of a mustang for $600.00 10/10 crank 30 over new valves/springs/guids/cam bla bla bla.

Will it fit in the 63? yes I know the trans are different so I will need to pick up a new bell housing for the rebuilt C-4 I already have. I did a search on 250 swap, but only came up with a few things, If any one has some more info please send it my way.

If the 250 thing works I think I will drop in a cam and some roller tip rockers and a header. Anyone have any other ideas besides a turbo??

It'll fit, but you have to spend some time in order to get it in there. If you're looking for a simple swap, this might not be what you had in mind.

Someone else might have the details, but otherwise pick up a copy of the Falcon Performance Handbook. It's all in there.

I got the book, just need to find the dam thing.
It was next to my bed, then my Dad saw it on the table and took it to his house. I thought he brought it back. guss not....

roller tips are cool, but that $500-$600 could probaby be spent somewhere else and make a bigger difference. a 2 barrel carb (or 3x1), porting, and a 3 angle valve job along with milling the head for more compression would probably be close to the cost of the rockers and pushrods ($510). just my opinion

Hey Ron - a 1980 250 in a Mustang is pretty unlikely to be original. Are you 100% it's not a 200?

A 250 dropped right into our '63 Sedan. It even used the stock motor mounts.
No problems with the center link. I had to fabricate a new C4 tranny mount.
The main problem is the fan to radiator clearance. There "might" be 1" between the water pump and radiator without the fan installed.
Originally I used an electric pusher fan in front of the radiator, and no engine driven fan with a stock water pump. That worked just fine.
Our current setup is that I removed the water pump altogether and went with an remote electric one made by Stewart. This allowed my to move the electric fan to the "correct" side of the radiator and give me room to add a larger intercooler for our turbo setup.
This new setup is by far the best yet. It also of course not the cheapest. That Stewart pump is about $400. Then you'll need to fabricate a plate where the standard pump used to go.
A 200 is a bolt in swap. A 250 requires some work.
But 50 cubic inches increase is noticable.

Will

Ok I found the book.
Looks like its not that hard.
I will get the casting #'s
But I thought all with a 4 bolt water pumps were 250's
Has the standard small block ford v-8 bell bolt pattern.
anything else, I am thinking of picking it up tomarrow.
$600.00 with the 4 speed and new flywheel clutch.

Or I can get a nice running 200 with about 20k on it for $300.00
And it comes with a C-4. I can drive the car befor I buy it.

In my opinion if the 200 runs nice and the C4 shifts well/runs well, then buy that and spend the money you saved to do a scarebird front disc upgrade and change over to electronic ignition(check Bort's post and price list) approx. $140 if you buy all new parts.
