So I just bought a rebuilt 250 and I need some parts. Its going into a '67 Mustang and I can't seem to find anything I need in mustang catalogs. Where's a good place to find 250 parts? I need everything, as of right now I have a block and a head. Oh, and I want to change it from a 3.03 to a T-5, since I have to buy a new bellhousing anyway, would I be better off getting one meant for a small block with a T-5? Or should I go with the adapter and the original bell? Either way, do the 8 cyl T-5 and 4 cyl T-5 have the same bolt pattern for the bell housing? I'd rather go with one from a 4 cyl car. Thanks for your help. -STP

both T5's should have the same bolt pattern
quite a few here would say that the V8 version is actually more suited to our engines, especially coupled with a rear-end gearing of between 3.20-3.55

IIRC the 250 and the SBF have the same bellhousing, someone will correct me if i'm wrong though, but if i'm right then i'd get a regular SBF bellhousing made for the T5, it doesn't make sense to buy an adapter for what you could get two or three bellhousings with

as for the parts, what exactly do you mean by you need everything?
do you have a fully assembled engine with no accessories and no exhaust? do you have a bare block and a bare head? (i know you don't because you said you bought a rebuilt engine, just making a point)

...need everything but block and head...?

I remember some ads from PAW in some car craft issues; they listed kits for the 250 as well - re-ring kits, piston-kits and the all-inclusive crank kits.

I highly recommend browsing this site: http://www.fordsixparts.com

Other stuff like freeze plugs, oil pressure - and thermostat switch, dizzy condenser and -points, dizzy cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, oil filters, air cleaners and such are available from various sources. check with your local parts store, but prepare you might have to check more than just one store. A lot of that stuff also interchanges with the 170-200. Same goes for thermostat housing.

both adjustable and inadjustable original styles of the TRW rocker arms are currently discontinued, but still available from places like rocker arm specialist in CA. roller-tipped and full roller rockers available from fordsixparts. The shaft is available new from pioneer (had to buy two ´cause I trashed one while chamfering the oil holes).

Evan is right, the 250 bellhousing is identical to the late 289 and 302 units.

More specifically i need:

flywheel, clutch etc.
water pump
pulleys
carb
starter
bellhousing
alternator and power steering mounting brackets

I think I'm going to get an electric fan as well. My main concern with the bell housing is the clutch fork and what changes would have to be made to a T-5 bell housing to accomodate it. 8 cyl T-5s are too expensive and I've heard from people who like and prefer the 4 cyl versions. I'm pretty sure my rear end is an open 3.00, so it should work fine.

If you have a good self-service junkyard(or recycler if you prefer the 'nicer' term) in your area, you can probably get the pulleys and brackets and such. That's where I got all of mine... you can usually find a few Maverick/Comets or Granada/Monarchs with 250's... and the good thing is..that most of that stuff is left intact because most people are looking for other stuff (V8 parts, disc brakes, etc.)

Starter and water pump you should be able to get at your local auto parts store. The starter is the same as the small block V8's for a 250 (at least on the auto's, I'm pretty sure the manual trannys would be as well). I'm pretty sure there's only one water pump for the 250 as well. You could also get a carb there also, depending on what you wanted to run.. most 1 barrel carbs can be purchased for around $100 for a 'new' rebuilt one from most stores..

The flywheel uses the same bolt pattern as the SBF's, but it needs to be neutral or zero balanced (the v8's use a offset weight for 28 oz or 50oz balance). You may be able to find one new, I saw one on ebay a while back... it may also be the same as the 300 'big' six.
