I was offered a '73 250/C4 complete from a (Oh the horror!) 'Stang V8 conversion. Having three 170/200 engine/clutch/std tranny projects already I am hesitant to get into 250 hardware.
After reading the http://www.fordsix.com/200-250.htm info on 250 swaps I still am unsure if there ever was a manual/stick - 250/Tranny/clutch combination.
The 250 swap page talks about the fact they use SB bell pattern but when I talked to the V8 conversion heretic, I wasn't sure when he asked if I could put a T5 or other standard tranny behind it.

Thanks, PB 8)

The stock manual tranny for the 250 was the 3.03. It was a full synchro three speed and very serviceable in my opinion.

I had the idea that the 250 was only offered with the automatic. This means any 250 can have a 3.03 pattern 5Spd or any toploader with a clutch/flywheel and block plate and bell. The flywheel would be the key part. How late or new did the 250 have standard shift. Did any fairmont/zephyrs have the stick? Granada's ?
I prefer gear drive to the automatics..
Thanks for the info PB

The 250 was available with a three speed manual transmission from its first year 1969 on.
157 teeth flywheel, clutch, transmission bellhousing all are sbf 289-302, with the only difference being a zero imbalance of the flywheel (compared to the 28oz imbalance of sbf and 50oz imbalance of 5.0).

You hit the nail right on the head, and very important on the balance of the flywheels. And yes, anything that will bolt up to a SBF will bolt up to a 250 inline 6.
