250 X-flow questions

Ok well i may be able to get my hands on a recently rebuilt iron head 250 X-flow (XC falcon for all you aussies). Its back to standard, but im probly gonna warm it up a bit. Ive head of using 200 rod in the 250s, and on the acl site they sell psitons for use with these. So does this "de-stroke" the engine, making it more revvier? So it will lose some torque? Also does any special preperations have to be made to the crank? what would be the rev limit is i did this? or is it just not worth it. cheers guys

i'll have a go - but if you search these forums for posts by 'xecute'- he is the guru on rod ratios and the benefits on the ford sixes.

what do you want from the motor ? - strip screamer or a road cruiser?

when adding the 200 rods it doesnt change the crank stroke - so engine capacity is the same.

what it does do is give a better rod to stroke length ratio. the higher ratio is better for higher revs - ie ie speed way /drag strip type 6000+rpm but my guess is the benefits are fairly small nothing like even 15 hp or anything ( happy to be proven wrong on that guesstimate!)

if you are just building a street cruiser you wont see any difference by staying with the 250 rods.

price up the acl race series pistons - over $750 aus for a set+ finding a set of 200 rods + engine build etc

on the street you'd probably get more bang for your buck with a ported head ,aftermarket inlet manifold and cam + exhaust

drag or speedway then all the above + the rods + wahtever other bits to get it all to hang together for a while at 6000+ rpm.

ps - not sure if you have registered for this site - but there is an aussie six sub forum - that members can access - thats where most of the aussie crossflow info is .
