i just found a 250 to put in my falcon, replacing my 144. you think it will fit?

or would i have to do some modifications?

If you have a 144, it must be an "Early Roundbody". Replacing it with a 250 will make it a different car. Along with the 250 , it probably will use most of the 250's drivetrain to make a reasonable swap. Plenty of info if you search on 250 . Here's one on early roundbody 250 's:

The "bolt on" swap for your 144 is a 200. Most years will bolt right up to existing drivetrain.

Lots of modifications to put that into a 61. I've got a 250 sitting in the garage that will never get under my hood with my limited skills at fabrication & limited funds.

i didnt see the ;link there.
thanks for the reply. one more question...

would my transmission bolt up?

That's why you're better off with a 200. It will bolt up to your transmission and fit under the hood. The 250 is almost 2 inches taller and an inch wider. The great thing about the 250 not to mention 25% more cubes is that you have a good selection of transmissions because like wallaka mentioned it has the 289/5.0 bellhousing pattern.

Where in Calistoga do you hang out? It's been ages, but I used to work at the Calistoga Inn for years.

Take care,

i have the 250 now.

got it for free=) and i think il mess around and try to get it to work=)

so, the only problem i ran into today was the bell housing.

i need one that will fit it, and i went to afew parts stores, and noone can order one or anything. anyone know where i can get one?

What trans do you want to fit?

Look for the appropriate bell/blockplate off a passenger car with 302. That's to suit a 157 tooth whyfeel.

There will be the comparatively small issue of rear support for the trans, and maybe a driveshaft.

Make sure your car has the tubular "belly bar" that spans your frame mounts below the motor.

Get the engine and trans installed, and work on the peripheral issues. That way it won't swamp you.

Unfortunately, parts stores will have very few of the parts needed for early roundbody conversions. . Forum contacts and sales, car show swaps and Evil-Bay are options. Work up a clear list of what you will need, there are always options..
