Is ther a computer out there that can replace the stock one and is tuneable without expensive chips

Here what you need. I've listened to what you've asked. And it may be that youre pushing brown sticky stuff up a ramp with a pointy stick, no offence

What you and every other EFI 300 owner needs to know:-Long ago, there used to be an Extreme Edge Ford SVO plug in module which could massage the fuel and ignition tables without triggering fault codes.

This was for 5.0's only.

It seams to me that the EEC module has a high degree of customisation for each vehicle. It is more than likely that there is no easy interface.

Here in Australia and New Zealand, Link offers a system that uses the stock case with a custom computer. It's fairly crude but gives you all the adjustment you need. Fueltronics has full EEC chips which take over the original engines functions with less conservative fuel and ignition ramps.

In America, no-one wants to have the brown paper bag for a Ford 4.9 Truck traced back to their company unless it has a CARB tag and an Executive Order. Or the EPA smog nazis may tell them to put 'five on der fender'. Illegal...

I'd find someone who has the background to do EEC chip mods, and prepare to pay. The 300 EFI is an engine crying out for after market chips. The intake may not be a power producer, but with a hot cam and the huge power of the EFI system in command, there is no reason why there can't be 200 hp and 290 lb-ft ballooning the convertor or clutch.

If the ignition has the Powertech (can't recall the name exactly, but our Aussie AU Falcons had a twin sparks per ignition event dual spark control), any cam change will cause huge problems to the vehicle running. If the cam timing is changed, the pulse of the injector is mis-timed. Mate, Ford spent billions on the EEC module since 1979. If there is a kit for the EEC, it's got to work with these pararmeters. The person who reworks the EEC based chip has to know as much as the Ford powertrain engineers.

My pick:-
Talk to your bank manager, your old lady, or beg from your cousins for a Haltech F9 EFI system, and allow yourself two full days dyno tunning. Holden six cylinder guys are using them in Aussie with great results. Then go buy a stout cam with 280 30-70 timing, a set of 1.6:1 roller rockers, and do a bare minimum head rework with better valve springs , valves and retainers. Rework the intake swirl ramp with a grinder. Theres no reason why 200 hp + and 290 lb-ft can't be yours as well.

Here's a list of dealers. Yes, it's expensive, and I hope your in a state where the emissions laws are kind.

Until someone gives you Ford six-cylinder truck guys the back up you deserve, this is the only option you've got
