This is an "incomplete" posting, as I don't have one of everything to photograph... Additions are welcome!

All pics link to large size images.

Spindles - left to right are XP, XR/XT and XW/XT (also XA/XB?)

Discs - Again same order left to right.

And a side view: The middle one is not actually assembled. Note they are ALL 2-piece assemblies. Since some time ago, DBA and others have offered a one-piece swap in for the XW and later hub/discs. This could be the root cause of some ideas about one and two piece setups.

Measuring across the back of the XR and XW units to show diameter. Last photo shows a small difference in size from XP to XR disc.

I have been told that six and eight XR/XT models had differing discs/calipers for the motors. But according to the XR/XT factory manuals, the differences only reflected the system used. PBR system discs are listed as 11 inches nominal diameter, while Girling are at 10¾ inches. Certainly, it is implied that the two don't mix and match on early models. Both caliper types were 2-pot. There is no mention of either special GT brakes or Fairlane brakes, so I will lay claim to clearing more BS.

Here are some calipers...
Girling (XP), Girlock (XW) and PBR(XY?)

Anybody got additional information?

Cheers, Adam.

Great stuff Adam. All I can add.

The 289 XR GT and 302 XT GT's ran the stock avaible 279 mm discs and 254mm drums. In 1969, the XW GT 351 (Phase I?) got a local version of the US Kelsey~Hayes 11.3" or so (287mm) discs like the rest of the Hoeys. Thereafter, the local PBR discs got the lions share of use, which were a simliar size.

For add=zero.

Good to see you can back my comments with a source. I have heard "XT GTs ran ventilated discs", "Fairlanes had bigger brakes" and other furphies about the XR-T/ZA-B series. My hands are often too dirty to open up a book or mag and read. (Nor do I have space for anything else on the shelves!)

The only thing I can't get to the bottom of yet is the dust shields. I have a factory trimmed one (see my other post).

Adam.

p.s. Sold the Godfrey JS-100 blower to Rob Rowe (the vintage car guy) - he knew all about them.
